Homeopathy - The Doctor Will See You Now

“I thought he really listened to me. I have never been asked that many questions by any doctor before. I think my homeopath knows more about me than anyone, even my husband,” said Kaylin about her first visit with a homeopathic practitioner.

A First Homeopathy Visit

“We went over my whole health history. He even asked about illnesses that have run in my family”

“I could not believe the extensive detail and careful examination of my entire symptoms, both psychological and physical, that I was asked. I spent one and a half hours answering questions!”

Kaylin had come to a homeopathic practitioner after she had run into a dead end with conventional care. She had had an automobile accident and after surgery, was left with a leg that was one inch shorter than the other. She had surgeries on both legs, her pelvis and her back, and for the next five years, was in constant pain. She was taking three pain medicines, and was still in pain. In fact, her pain seemed to be more difficult to control now than before. She was more and more limited in her ability to get around and to work. When the pain was really bad she sometimes had to resort to a wheel chair. She was worried she had become addicted to the pain medicine. A friend recommended homeopathy.

“He was asking the most extraneous questions,” she recalls. “For example, how I felt before a thunderstorm, what foods I craved, what sensation I had in the scars from my surgery.”

"There was none of the humiliation of sitting around in a gown or being poked with instruments. He just sat behind his desk asking questions and feeding my answers into his computer.“

What Is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a thorough study of subjective and objective symptoms of disease. During an initial consultation homeopaths record carefully all changes in health noticed by the patient, reported by the family and loved ones, and those observed by the practitioner. This information is used to select a suitable medicine. All alterations in how a patient feels and all signs exhibited during an illness are taken into consideration.

Some symptoms may be very mild and may not be recognized by the untrained observer as part of a beginning illness. For example, a child may become “more clingy” to the parent when  exposed to an acute infection. Even signs that are not typically described as symptoms of disease are important. Homeopathic data bases include such seemingly trivial data as “always separates his food”; “must lean backward to have a bowel movement”; “cannot stand the odor of cooking food”, “averse to the runny white of an egg”; “unable to urinate in the presence of a nurse”, etc.

In chronic disorders homeopaths look at characteristics that appear to have become part of the personality of the patient. For example, “Reluctant to make any decision”; “always better from being near the ocean”; “wakes up at exactly 3:00am every night”, “worried about the heath of her relatives”, “fear of begin alone in the dark”, “can’t remember what he was about to do”, “must be covered because she is always feeling a draft”, “tends to be dictatorial and angry, and demands absolute perfection”, etc.

These are actually signs of disorder – subtle changes in the normal sense of “ease” that mark a gradual evolution in a healthy individual towards chronic illness. In homeopathic treatment the seemingly odd quirks that individuals exhibit disappear along with the diagnosed disorder, such as “hypertension” or “endometriosis.” As a result of homeopathic treatment, patients don’t just recover from illness but also feel more at ease psychologically and see improvement in their interpersonal relationships.

Picking A Homeopathic Remedy

After Kaylin had gotten all her life’s suffering, pain, fears and worries off her chest she felt relieved. She had even cried a little during this extensive interrogation. Now she was calm and relaxed. However her back pain was a constant, brutal reminder that she still needed treatment. She was asked to wait in the waiting area. The homeopath’s assistant prepared two remedies for her. She sat down and explained how these remedies were to be taken. She was to take one by sniffing it every morning. After ten days she was to take the second one, in the same way. She was also told not to drink coffee and to avoid mint and camphor, along with a few other things. She learnt that camphor was a common ingredient of finger nail polish. The assistant set up a follow up appointment for her three weeks later.

When she returned, she was happy to report she had needed her pain medicine much less and had even discontinued the hydrocodone altogether. She had started to cut back the Celebrex because of concerns about its safety. Her back was so much better that for the first time in years she again had hope.

Finding a Homeopath

This is one of many accounts of Homeopathy dramatically improving the life of one of its patients. If you or someone you care about is facing a chronic health condition, consider finding a Homeopath in your area.
