Acupuncture Insurance May Be on the Way

Good news for Californians when it comes to alternative medicine and health insurance!

If approved, a new bill would require all health insurance providers to include acupuncture as a covered expense in their health care plans.

Representative Mervyn Dymally proposed Assembly Bill 54 which would require all health-care service plan providers to cover acupuncture expenses when administered by official state licensees.

California, commonly known as the state that leads the rest of the country in alternative thinking on all fronts, currently has about 70 percent of insurers covering acupuncture visits in their plans. AB 54 would make it a requirement for 100 percent to do so.
