Alternative Treatments for Acne

Acne sufferers need not resort to chemical treatments to relieve discomfort or embarassing blemishes.

The pimples, blackheads or whiteheads that form on your face are nothing but a simple reaction to an overproduction of a skin lubricant. This lubricant, called sebum, blocks hair follicles and creates a place in which bacteria multiplies. Fortunately, acne responds well to many holistic and alternative medical treatments.

If you would like a gentle antiseptic for the occasional pimple, try aromatherapy. After washing your face thoroughly, apply Tea Tree Oil on the pimple. Tea Tree Oil is a natural antiseptic which will speed up the healing.

For general skin maintenance using the body's own natural healing capabilities, try acupressure. The Stomach meridian balances the skin, so applying pressure to acupuncture points along this energy channel will balance the skin's lubrication and keep it blemish-free.

If you are considering something non-invasive and relaxing, try reflexology. By applying massage to various organs accessed through the feet you can stimulate circulation and balance hormone levels in your skin. Pressure should be applied to the liver, adrenal gland, kidney, intestine, and thyroid gland and a few other reflex points an experienced reflexologist might suggest.

Practicing yoga daily is said to increase the blood flow. Holistic Online provides a series of five yoga poses, (standing sun, knee squeeze, seated sun, baby and cobra), which can stimulate this process. Good circulation can bring nutrients to the skin and flush away toxins.

Homeopathic practitioners would also consider the type of outbreak of acne you generally experience. For severe, itchy acne, a homeopathic treatment may include taking Kali bromatum three times daily. For puss-filled pimples, they might recommend a dose of Antimonium tartaricum, again, three times daily until you see an improvement.

Consult the specialists in these fields for more information, and remember to let them know if you choose to use one or more of these methods at a time.
