Aromatherapy All Day Long

Countless studies have proven the link between our sense of smell and our experience of emotions, which explains the powerful healing benefits of aromatherapy through the use of essential oils.

While the most common way to treat yourself at home with essential oils involves placing drops of the healing botanic oil directly on the skin and then inhaling, there are a variety of other ways to take advantage of the healing effects of essential oils and aromatherapy anytime throughout your day.

Rosemary is known to have youthful, energizing effects and as such is recommended as a morning pick-me-up. Infuse rosemary in a morning tea or add it to a morning shower routine.

Make your own oil of alcohol infused with spruce, juniper or birch to stimulate morning muscles in preparation for a sunrise workout. Afterwards use bergamot, cypress or ylang-ylang for a soothing cool down.

Thyme can work to your health advantage as an antiseptic and also works to stimulate tired capillaries. Combined with comfrey root which has cell regeneration properties and the anti-inflammatory essential oil of lavender, it makes a great potion for a facial steam that can hydrate your lungs and treat the sinus cavity.

In the afternoon and evening hours when energy wanes a tonic drink with gingerale and melissa hydrosol can perk you right up. Or try an herbal fruit punch made from apple juice or white grape juice and steeped herbs such as borage and burnet, lemon peel, lavender or rose geranium.

A peaceful night’s sleep can also be achieved with the helpful aid of essential oils. Rose, jasmine, vanilla and neroli can all assist with sleeping disorder.
