Aromatherapy For Hair Loss? Let it Go to Your Head

Is there more hair in the sink lately than on your head?

Thinning hair occurs for many reasons such as the change in seasons, diet, stress, thyroid dysfunction, and more.

But if you see round patches of baldness in random areas around your head, it’s not your garden variety pattern baldness. It’s alopecia areata.

Alopecia areata is actually quite common in both men and women who are in good health. And while the exact cause is unknown, there is good news for alopecia areata sufferers.

A combination of essential oil extracts was tested in a double-blind study of nearly 100 people with alopecia areata. The combination oils (thyme, rosemary, lavender, cedarwood, jojoba, and grapeseed oils) were massaged daily on the scalp of half of the people.

Nearly 50% of the people who used the combination showed significant hair regrowth. The rest who used the oil experienced some regrowth. Those who used a placebo, instead of the essential oils, experienced no growth at all.

One of the most popular treatments in centuries-old alternative medicine has always been aromatherapy. Another alternative medicine used for alopecia areata is Ayurvedic herbal remedies, though they have not been tested officially. Two ayurvedic oils, bhringaraj and brahmi can accelerate hair growth, after continued daily use for 6 months. Simply massage into scalp and let aromatherapy go to your head.
