August - National Watermelon Month

It’s August 3rd and you’re three days late for National Watermelon Month!
Watermelons have a bounty of nutritional health benefits such as some of the most important antioxidants, such as beta-carotene, carotenoid, and lycopene.
Lycopene has been repeatedly found to be protective against a growing list of cancers, such as prostate cancer, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancers.
The
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition also reports that it prevents against cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis and a host of other heart-related dysfunctions and illnesses.
Watermelons contain vitamin C, which is known to alleviate some of the symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, vitamin A which prevents vision dysfunction or illness, and many B vitamins, necessary for energy production.
But most of all, they’re a great source of water and are a sweet, juicy way to keep you hydrated during this, the hottest month of the year.
