Australians Find Tea Tree Oil Is an Effective Herbal Remedy for Athlete's Foot

As we have reported here on altMD, Australia is one of the latest countries to blaze a path in complementary and alternative medicines.

As such, Australian researchers discovered that the natural herbal remedy of tea tree oil is an effective treatment for the scaly, itchy condition of athlete’s foot.

After participating in a clinical trial for only one month, Australian scientists discovered that 158 subjects using the herbal solution experienced a significant response to the CAM treatment.

Athlete’s foot is a fungus that commonly strikes in between the toes. In the study the rate of patients who experienced significant results from using a solution containing 50 percent tea tree oil was more than double those patients using a placebo.

It makes perfect sense that this study originated in Australia, not only because of their advancements in CAM, but also because tea tree oil comes from one of Australia’s native plants, Melaleuca alternifolia.
The Mayo Clinic reports that other conditions which tea tree oil is effective in treating include dandruff, acne and thrush.
