Celebrate Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day

Pull out your palm pilot – we have another event that you can’t afford to miss! October 24th is celebrated across America, Canada and Mexico as the official Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day.

Alternative and complementary medical practitioners across the continent often help honor AOM Day with free educational presentations, open houses, and sometimes even discounts on treatments.

Supported by statistics from the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), Acufinder.com, an acupuncture referral service, reported that the use of alternative medicine is “at an all-time high.”

Check out these NCCAM numbers! In the U.S. approximately:

  • 36 percent of adults employ alternative therapy techniques as part of their health and wellness regimen
  • 25 percent have used acupuncture treatments
  • 64 percent of traditional medical doctors have recommended patients try alternative therapies from a certified practitioner

Still feeling skeptical? Don’t worry, you are in good hands. These practitioners, credentialed through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine go through meticulous and extensive educational preparations. They must complete more than 2,000 hours of training and pass national board examinations.
