Clean Chemo Out of Your Body with Ayurvedic Detoxifying Herbs

The most common side effect that most people associate with chemotherapy is the loss of hair. But other short-term effects can also leave a dramatic impact on the body’s overall health. Even though the chemo may have knocked out the poisonous cancer, it probably zapped quite a few other internal functions as well.

Hormonal imbalances, fatigue, a weakened immune system, and problems related to memory, attention and concentration that are sometimes referred to as “chemobrain” are all part of the repercussions of receiving chemotherapy treatments. These physical health consequences can last for months or sometimes even for several years.

Dr. Nancy Lonsdorf’s article in the August issue of Alternative Medicine reviews several ways to detoxify the body after cancer and chemo. One method with proven effects in lab studies included a traditional Ayurvedic herbal formula known as amrit nectar. This natural remedy is supposed to help guard normal, undamaged cells from the dangerous chemotherapy treatments.

Dr. Lonsdorf, the dean at Maharishi College of Vedic Medicine outlines a two-phase detoxification system. Phase one includes an organic diet, fiber, water, stress reduction, and detox tea. Phase two of the Ayurvedic detox program is called the panchakarma detox, and begins two months after the chemo treatments.

Panchakarma detox is said to lower the body’s PCB count through warm oil massages, and elimination therapies that address the toxin levels inside deep tissue layers.

Ayurvedic philosophies believe this “science of life” which dates back more than 5,000 years is an essential ancient healing art that when properly practiced can restore harmony and balance internally, leading to a long and healthy life.
