Corporate America to Traditional Chinese Medicine on Key Biscayne

Ever dream of what it would be like to escape the rat race and live a beach bum life on a tropical, Hawaiian island? One South Floridian knows exactly how that dream plays out: harmoniously.

Steven Chasens, recently featured in Key Biscayne’s The Island News, has worked as a marine scientist, a computer consultant, an oil pollution surveyor, a medical equipment design tester, and holds a master's degree in environmental science. But after an unfulfilling life in Corporate America, he made a change. He reported to Jodi Rodgers, that he left everything behind and moved to Hawaii. While on the island a nagging back injury led him to seek treatment from a specialist in Oriental Medicine.

His success with the treatments led to an “Aha Moment” where he discovered the next path on his life’s adventure; traditional Chinese medicine. Upon his return to the mainland Chasens began his journey which included more than three years of study and an externship in China.

Today Chasens is an acupuncture physician at Key Biscayne's Palmer Clinic, with additional offices in Coral Gables and Aventura. He appears to be in better health and harmony than ever and explained to Rodgers, “…the message I try to give my patients: that at some point, it's your responsibility to make decisions about your health. Just as you choose between a healthy and an unhealthy meal, you need to take the responsibility to choose the type of care that gives you the best results.”
