Dog Friendly Diets

While many Americans who have been long-time pet owners know of the dangers of feeding certain “people food” to dogs, many new dog owners, who charitably adopted from local pet shelters and humane societies may be new to the idea that not all human foods are healthy for our furry, friendly pets, even if they love to scarf down dinner faster than a Dirt Devil.

Some of the common people foods that dogs should not ingest include grapes, raisins, chocolate, nuts, potatoes, onions, turkey and mulch.

Holistic pet care does not just include visits to the local alternative pet doctor, but also starts with a healthy, animal-friendly diet at home.

Almost everyone has heard that chocolate is toxic to dogs, but grapes and raisins can be hard on your dog’s digestive tract as well, even if they are organically-grown sans pesticides and herbicides, because they can causing kidney failure.

Fatty foods ingested by man’s best friend can overwork their pancreas and potentially become fatal.

And while nuts are generally a good naturopathic therapy for humans, in dogs they can add to their already high phosphorus levels, causing bladder stones.

While the health and wellness of humans has much to do with diet, nutrition and CAM preventative maintenance, so does the health and well-being of our pets.
