News published this week regarding the health and wellness programs of the elderly have positive indications when it comes to alternative medicine treatments.

Research found in the publication, Pain Medicine, evaluated eight mind-body therapies thought to aid in relief of chronic pain in seniors.

Those taking part in meditation or tai chi sessions reported improvements in lower back pain, while progressive muscle relaxation exercises proved beneficial in treating osteoarthritis. Other methods studied in this holistic health senior report included hypnosis and yoga.

Chronic pain is a common condition related to senior health and concerning due to factors such as a high risk of side effects from conventional drugs prescribed for treatment.
