For Animal Allergies, SLIT is the Cat’s Meow

Slit, an acronym for Subliminal Immunotherapy, used in alternative medicine as an alternative to allergy shots, is making news in Madrid for curbing cat dander allergies.

The July issue of Allergy said that residents (particularly kids) of Madrid prefer not to give up their cats as the frontline defense.

Fifty cat-loving dander allergy-sufferers volunteered to take drops of cat dander extract orally, and then go into a “cat room.”

They didn’t break into hives, breathed normally and failed to exhibit most of the symptoms associated with cat dander allergies.

The magic of SLIT is that it is humane allergy treatment. The process follows the same principle as conventional medicine's allergy shots – expose the sufferer to small doses of the allergen over periods of time until the person’s immune system doesn’t even notice it is there– but is needle-free.

When you use SLIT, you take the allergen orally, or inhale it. And because it does not involve nasty needles, you can do it from the comfort of your home.

That's the kind of treatment that will leave you purrfectly happy.
