GAS-AHOLICS: Florida’s worst money-waster

We’re number 3. Yep, proud to be living in Florida, third state in the nation with the highest gas prices, second only to California and Colorado.

So it’s probably time to invest in a hybrid car, even if you hate the planet and don’t care if it’s still lush in 30 years.

Last Thursday Greenpeace demonstrated at Porsche declaring their new 2008 Cayenne hybrid to be a sham in fuel efficiency the same day the company unveiled it to the public.

Maybe they don’t get the stamp of approval from Greenpeace as a manufacturer, but they’ve joined the ranks of many car dealers who now offer an alternative vehicle for economical and ecological reasons.

And the hybrid Cayenne is only one in a long line of hybrid SUVs, trucks and vans scheduled for fall 2008, after this year’s new hybrid Chevy Tahoe, Dodge Durango and Mazda Tribute.

The two best sellers are still the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic Hybrid, both starting at around $22,000, followed by the $30,000 Honda Accord Hybrid, which has a small electric motor to boost performance.

However, a recent article on MSN (global warming, toxic emissions and deforestation notwithstanding), still claims it’s not worth the investment to buy a hybrid even with soaring gas prices and a tax incentive called the "Clean Fuels" tax deduction of up to $2,000.

Personally, I think if you’re in the market for a Cayenne anyway, you’re not even thinking gas or tax deduction.

You’re thinking – Porsche!

So kudos to Porsche for even giving us the option, and see the hybrid timeline to zero in on your next step toward gas freedom.
