Getting Clean and Staying Clean Through Chiropracty

A study done by the University of Miami School of Medicine and the Florida Chiropractic Society to prove the effectiveness of chiropractic adjustment in dealing with chemical addiction resulted in a new way to treat drug addicts.

Since that study, which points to the need for integrating chiropractic care with standard drug dependency programs, many TV documentaries such as the one on Discovery Health Channel, and research articles have appeared to support the findings.

The 18-month study involved three groups of patients in a residential drug-addiction program. One group received standard care, the second received standard care plus chiropracty and the third received standard care plus a placebo for chiropracty.

Results showed that all the people receiving the additional alternative medicine modality of chiropractic care, completed the entire drug program successfully. This "retention" in the chemical dependency program is the most important. Without completing the program, say sources, there is only about a 50% chance of the patient actually getting and staying off drugs.

Interestingly, chiropracty is the only modality which has resulted in 100% retention. Those who underwent chiropractic care also had less visits to nurse stations and showed less detox or withdrawal symptoms.

Researchers said the results showed a definite link between chiropractic care and the focus on treatment, rather than discomfort.
