Herbal Medicine Effective in Treating IBS

A study published in a past issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association endorsed the use of traditional Chinese medicine in treating IBS.

Irritable bowel syndrome, commonly known as IBS, is thought to effect as many as 20 percent of adults living in America and Australia. It is a disorder of the gastrointestinal tract that leads to intense abdominal pain, bloating and other irksome effects ranging from diarrhea to constipation.

In the published research, 78 percent of patients participating in the study reported an improvement in their symptoms after taking a Chinese herbal formula. Yin chen, bai zhu, dang shen, and yi yi ren were some of the natural herbs used to treat IBS in the study.
