Hope for Diabetics in Traditional Chinese Medicine

Recent research conducted at the Garvan Institute’s Diabetes & Obesity Research Program in Sydney, Australia showed promising results for diabetic sufferers.

Australian, Korean and Chinese scientists found that berberine can activate an enzyme that lives in the liver and muscle tissues that can improve sensitivity to insulin.

This natural botanical is commonly found in roots and bark of a variety of plants and for years has been used to treat open wounds and other conditions such as diarrhea and weight gain.

Though more research is needed to confirm the way that this form of traditional Chinese medicine works in humans with diabetes, preliminary results show that berberine can lower glucose levels and help control blood sugar with little to no side effects.

It’s good news for diabetics who are tired of suffering through common side effects of conventional prescription drugs in the metformin and TZD groups.
