Hot Off the Presses: Green Tea Extract Shows Significant Results in Fighting Cancer

An article published on Monday in
Reuters Health and other web sources adds more validity to green tea as a powerful herbal remedy in the world of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).
The report explained that patients participating in a study by the University of Arizona, Tucson who took
green tea extract in capsule form showed improved production of enzymes that offer detoxifying components, which can aid in fighting cancer.
People can have varying levels of glutathione S-transferase (GST) enzymes due to uncontrollable factors related to genetics and the environment. The GST enzyme is the detoxifying component that aids the body in fighting against toxins related to
cancer.
In the study, 80 percent of the subjects who took the green tea extract capsules showed an increased level of GST enzymes.
Researchers involved in the study, which was published in the Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention medical journal, warn the general public against running out to the health foods store and stocking up on common varieties of green tea remedies. This is due to the fact that the capsules used in the study were specially made for this designated clinical trial. Many common varieties of the natural remedy are not obligated to meet the same standards as those used in the study.
