Maintaining Health with Mangos

The sun’s hot summertime rays can leave many us feeling exhausted and lethargic, not to mention quite sweaty. What better way to keep your body cool than with a tall, refreshing glass of Mango Lassi?!

The summer issue (July/August 2007) of Yoga + Joyful Living magazine features this natural, protein shake in all its glory. Hailed from South Asia, it is packed full of vitamins A, B and C, which are essential in maintaining healthy immune systems, reproductive health, bone growth and glowing skin. The other health benefits of this summertime shake include its time release formula which ensures high energy levels that last for hours.

Mango’s alternative healing properties include improving conditions like anemia, heart disease, stress, constipation and dehydration.

Here’s the simple recipe:

Peel 1 ripe mango, remove the pit and chop into blender-appropriate, sized chunks
Add ¾ cup water
Blend in 1 cup plain yogurt
Add 2 tablespoons sugar, a dash of ground, green cardamom seed and ground saffron
Use the pulse function on the blender
Add 8 ice cubs and keep blending until frothy
