Menopause Symptoms Quelled By Soy

Now menopausal, post menopausal and all women have more reason to eat soy beans, soy flour, soy milk, tempeh, and tofu, said an article in Chinese Medicine News.

A Swedish study reports that isoflavones in soy, drastically reduce hot flashes, night sweats and all kinds of uncomfortable symptoms associated with menopause and estrogen imbalance.

Isoflavones, which belong to a class of compounds known as flavonoids, are mighty cancer and dementia preventors. But they are also weak estrogens which bind to estrogen receptors and then magically balance out the individual’s body by instantly determining whether more or less estrogen needs to be produced.

Researchers gave the women subjects only 60 milligrams of isoflavones in a soybean-based fruit drink daily for 3 months.

Hot flashes and night sweats were reduced by more than 50 % without any changes in progesterone hormones, or steroid-expressing receptors or any other side effects.

Soy is a mainstay of the Chinese diet. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, soy has been used as healing agent. Several studies show soy can also prevent gallstones, protects kidney function, stimulates bone formation, lowers harmful cholesterol levels and inhibits atherosclerosis.
