NCCAM Director's Fellowship in Complementary and Alternative Medicine

In 2006 the
National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) established two fellowships for aspiring specialists in complementary and alternative medicine.
The NCCAM Director's Fellowship in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Research was established primarily to prepare selected fellows for a future career in CAM research.
Dr. Stephen E. Strauss, the director of NCCAM explained that the prestigious designation also “exemplifies our approach to integrative medicine by fostering CAM research throughout the NIH.”
The first two fellows selected will work with senior scientists conducting studies on CAM topics in the Intramural Research Program.
The official mission of NCCAM is to “explore complementary and alternative medical practices in the context of rigorous science, train CAM researchers, and disseminate authoritative information to the public and professionals.”
Funding for the fellowships is partially provided by the Prince of Wales Foundation.
