Norwegian Study Says Soda Linked to Mental Distress in Teens

American Journal of Public Health reports that teens who drink a lot of soda end up with bigger problems than obesity. Mental distress has been positively linked with mental health difficulties, hyperactivity and other mental conditions.

The study was conducted in Norway, where, for some reason, they have the highest rate of carbonated soft drink consumption in the world, averaging more than 30 gallons per person, per year!

More than 5000 teens were interviewed about their soda drinking consumption which was then compared to their own school records for conduct and attendance.

Those who ingested more, had the most problems, which could be easily corrected through a change in diet and a complete restriction of soda consumption. The Five Soft Drink Monsters, a book about how to kick the soda habit, lists more evils of soda consumption.

Moreover, soda drinking contributes to poor nutrition, because of the "full feeling" teens get after consumption, the report stated.
