Not Dieing to Color Your Hair? Alternatives to Ammonia

From Pioneer Thinking come some homemade hair colorants that really work, they claim, if you are patient. All processes take several weeks before you will notice the change.

To color your hair red, simply wash your hair 15 times with a strong tea of rosehips or cloves, or use strong black coffee, re-rinsing with the same liquid. On the final rinse, wring your hair, and leave for 15 minutes before rinsing with clear water.

To highlight your hair red, mix a cup of 1/2 cup beet juice and 1/2 cup carrot juice, pour over damp hair, and sit in the sun for one hour, then wash.

To color your hair brown, simply rinse your hair 15 times with a strong black tea, or black coffee. On the final rinse, wring your hair, and leave for 15 minutes before rinsing with clear water.

To color your hair blonde, simply rinse your hair 15 times with a mixture of a gallon of warm water with a tablespoon of lemon. On the final rinse, wring your hair, and leave for 15 minutes before rinsing with clear water.

For blonde highlights, mix 1 cup lemon juice with 3 cups brewed and cooled chamomile tea. Pour over damp hair then sit in the sun for one hour, then wash it out.

But the daddy of them all, is the recipe for covering gray. Simmer 1/2 cup dried sage in 2 cups water for 30 minutes, then steep for several hours. Apply to hair and leave on until dried. Then rinse and dry. Repeat weekly, until your old color actually returns!!

TRAIN your hair to resist the gray with a strong rosemary and sage tea with equal amounts of rosemary and sage to 1 cup of water. Combine ingredients and steep for 10 minutes, strain and use liquid for the colorant.

What will they think of next?!
