Organic Tomatoes - Juicy New Findings

Think all tomatoes are made the same?

A recent 10-year study at the University of California-Davis and the University of Minnesota show that organic tomoatoes are mightier and meatier, reported Consumer Health Daily.

Scientists at these universities checked levels of beneficial flavonoids, which are known to reduce high blood pressure, and lower the risk of heart disease, cancer and dementia, in both organically-grown and conventionally grown dried tomatoes.

They found that those grown organically had up to 97% higher levels of flavonoids because the soil in which organic tomatoes grow is not over-fertilized. Tomatoes have to work extra hard to get any nutrients, and thus, the good, strong flavonoids are born.
