Papworth’s Worth Proven in Recent Research

Asthma patients can breathe a deep sigh of relief due to the recent results of a United Kingdom research study.

The study tested 85 patients with mild asthma. In addition to regular drug treatments, the participants received five sessions of what is known as the Papworth method of breathing. In comparison with patients who continued to rely only on their regular drug therapy the study showed that subjects employing the Papworth method cut their asthma symptoms by one-third.

Twelve months later the Papworth method users continued to maintain a decreased level of asthmatic symptoms due to this form of alternative healing.

The Papworth method involves relaxation exercises and integrated breathing techniques developed in a U.K. hospital in the 1960’s. It has also shown to help people who suffer from anxiety and depression.

The authors of the study have stated, “to our knowledge, this is the first evidence from a controlled trial to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Papworth method.”
