Pectin Power Cancer Killer

Science Daily released today that reserachers at University of Georgia have found one more beneficial use for pectin.

It kills cancerous cells, and only cancerous cells, by making them self-destruct merely by being present.

Wow. I think I do that to my husband's ex-wfe.

The study, done on prostate cancer cells, was found in the August issue of Glycobiology, and stated that it is indeed the pectin used to make jam, found in fruit.

Simply by exposing the cancerous cells in standard lab conditions to the pectin, made them literally self-destruct in a process known as "apoptosis." It ravaged the cancerous cells and killed nearly 50% of them. Pectin even worked on cells that do not respond to current medications.

The pectin study was based on prior findings on the health benefits of pectin, such as, lowering cholesterol and glucose levels, and inducing apoptosis in lung cancer and colon cancer cells.
