Reflexology Relieves Sinusitis Symptoms
Reflexology is nosing its way ahead as a popular alternative remedy for sinusitis.
Reflexology which is done by applying pressure, stretch and movement to the feet and hands to affect a positive health-related change in other parts of the body, can also be used to clear out congestion.
The
Connecticut Center for Health reports that one study found the daily stimulation of reflexology points was as effective as a daily
hypertonic sinus lavage in treating chronic sinusitis.
Reflexology points that correspond to the sinus tissues are found on the tips of all toes and fingers, except the thumbs. To relieve sinusitis pressure, pressure is applied to each of these tips, instead, for 30 seconds about three times a day.
Reflexology, which is a Traditional Chinese Medicine specialty, was brought to America in the early 1900's by Chinese immigrants, but evidence of it can be found in hieroglyphs of the ancient Egyptians.
It was made popular as "Zone Therapy" in the 1960s by the book of the same name written by Dr. Edwin Bowers, medical critic, and its main proponent in America, Dr. William H. Fitzgerald.
