Rheumatoid Arthritis Benefits From Mediterranean Diet

We have previously explained to altMD readers of alternative medicine expert, Dr. Weil’s, many natural remedies for arthritis. Now, new research indicates that another way to combat the painful symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include a Mediterranean diet.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder affecting the lining of the joints. This attack leads to painful and chronic inflammation and stiffness.

The beneficial effects of a healthy Mediterranean diet are no longer limited to decreasing heart disease risks. It is believed that the healthy fats in ingredients like olive oil have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Study participants, who consisted mainly of women, reported improvements in morning stiffness, overall health and general pain after boosting up their diets with the legumes, fruits and veggies commonly associated with this type of healthy diet.
