Rolfing Up Stature and Health

In April, rolfing was officially introduced into the mainstrean on Oprah. The segment, which featured Dr. Mehmet Oz, author of “You: The Owner’s Manual," hinged on rolfing's benefits on muscle realignment. Imagine a technique from the 80s just making its debut! Dr. Oz was wincing on some parts of the session, but on the whole, intrigued and satisfied that the rolfer worked "within limits."

Rolfing is an old, alternative, holistic healing technique that releases the motion restrictions that ruin body alignment. It is to muscles what chiropractic work is to bones. It helps correct many, common structural problems. It is known to reduce chronic stress and improve body structure.

Typically, said the certified rolfer who worked on Dr. Oz, a rolfer will use his fingers, fists or elbows, to deeply knead the muscles into proper alignment, focusing on one muscle at a time. Rolfing separates bound-up connective tissues called "fascia" so you sit and stand straighter and taller with less effort. The body, according to the report on Oprah, will breathe better and feel lighter.
