This Month in Congress: Chiropractic Care Available to All Veterans Act Passes Full US House

A bill in Congress introduced last May to amend the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Programs Enhancement Act of 2001, called HR 1470, to require the provision of chiropractic care and services be available to veterans at all Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers, passed this August in front of a full US House of Representatives.

The International Chiropractors Association, which initially launched the bill and followed its progress with a series of campaigns and a heavy-hitting legislative team, celebrated this week on its approval.

The new legislation will extend veterans’ access to in-facility chiropractic services by increasing the chiropractic personnel requirements to “not fewer than 75 . . . centers by . . . December 2008, and at all medical centers . . . by December 2011."

This means that veterans will now be able to access alternative medicine and interative healthcare in the modality of chiropracty, whenever and wherever they want or need.

ICA also added provisions to ensure that successful pilot chiropractic centers approved by ICA would be in place as models for the government’s medical facilities.

Congrats, ICA and soldiers! Who better needs it?
