Treating Anemia with Alternative Medicine

Two types of anemia have reared their ugly heads in recent decades, particularly plaguing women, either through diet deficiencies lacking iron or folic acid. Twenty percent of American women in their childbearing years suffer from iron-deficiency anemia, while folic acid deficiency anemia often occurs in senior-aged women.

Proper nutrition and a healthy diet are some of your best weapons in helping your body naturally fight against common conditions. Ways you can combat anemia with what you eat include focusing your meals around green, leafy veggies, and lean, red meat. Foods high in vitamin C will also help your body absorb the iron that you are consuming. While herbal teas pass the nutrition test, teas that contain tannins work against your body’s effort to absorb iron.

Daily folic acid recommendations can be met with asparagus, brussel sprouts, black-eyed peas, oatmeal, orange juice and cantaloupe.
