Users of Alternative and Complementary Medicine Get Hospitalized Less

Results from a study published in the May issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics showed amazing and promising results for the future of healthcare and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in America.

The research, which took place during a seven-year period, showed that patients who utilized chiropractic or other CAM specialists as their primary care physician had to be hospitalized 60 percent less than patients visiting their conventional primary doctor through their HMO.

Their pharmaceutical costs were also dramatically decreased - by 85 percent!

In addition to lower health care costs, the patients who chose chiropractors and alternative medicine doctors to serve as their primary care physician also reported a higher satisfaction rate than conventional medicine patients.

One of the coauthors of this alternative health study explained that the news is promising due to America’s current political hot button; healthcare costs. The results confirm that allopathic, chiropractic and CAM specialists have an important key role in improving the future and the way that Americans view their health and healthcare system.
