Vacation Fitness Routines

August is one of the most popular travel months of the year. With family vacations looming around the corner, creating a way to maintain your healthy diet and fitness routine can be quite an obstacle. Jeanie Callen Barat, an ACE-Certified Master Trainer and Fitness Consultant recommended on Health and Age several ideas for staying on course and keeping your body’s health a top priority.

First she suggests, “[s]top trying to save space. Pack your bulky workout shoes, extra outfits and workout equipment like hand and ankle weights. Keep in mind what's worse: the extra pounds in your luggage or the extra pounds on you?”

Do a dry run of your travel exercise routine before you ever hit the road. For travelers who are unsure of what kind of fitness center will be accessible while vacating in exotic destinations, crunches and push ups can be completed in almost any hotel room, tent, motorhome or boat.

Get creative! This is your chance to switch up the monotony of a worn-out daily fitness routine. Taking a trip to the mountains - why not research hiking trails and walking paths? Or opt for the walking tour of a historic site or botanic garden versus riding on the lazy tram. A beach bungalow is your home away from home this summer - wake up early for sunrise yoga or the serenity of a sunset session of Tai Chi.

However you choose to do it, remember that relaxing on a vacation does not have to mean self-sabotage for your fitness routine.
