psychosomatic medicine information
Psychosomatic Medicine is a field of health care and healing that crosses the boundaries of a multitude of medical fields. Psychosomatic Medicine is today more commonly known as psychophysiologic medicine and describes the treatment of certain conditions where symptoms are caused by mental processes of the patient not explained by physiological root causes. Psychosomatic Medicine integrates diagnoses and treatment approaches commonly found in psychiatry, psychology, neurology, surgery, gynecology, pain management, pediatrics, dermatology, psychoneuroimmunology, and many other fields. Proponents believe that psychological processes are key factors influencing medical outcomes as well as patient compliance and even surgical outcomes. Psychosomatic Medicine is a well studied area of medicine and it is fairly well accepted today that some conditions in certain patients have a psychological rather than physiological cause.
