psychotherapy information

Psychotherapy is actually a rather new approach to patient care – a little more than a hundred years old, founded by Sigmund Freud and his colleagues in Austria in the late 19th Century.  Psychotherapy is described as an interpersonal, relational intervention used by trained psychotherapists to help their patients and clients with everyday concerns and problems of living. Practitioners in Psychotherapy use a wide range of interpersonal techniques to treat their patients, including spoken conversation, structured patient encounters, trust building and relationship building with their patients, hypnosis, group counseling – and more, all designed to help better understand feelings and events that cause patient discomfort and help the individual to change behaviors and perceptions to improve their health and well being.
