rosen method information
The Rosen Method is a movement based modality and patient-education approach that was developed over 50 years by the physical therapist Marion Rosen starting in the 1930s. The Rosen Method, sometimes set to music, was developed as a form of exercise and to help her patients age gracefully and prevent physical problems before they arise. The Rosen Method practitioner is trained in the application of gentle, direct touch, using their hands to, it is said, “listen” rather than manipulate. The Rosen Method practitioner “listens” to help the patient with chronic muscle tension leading to relaxation. Advocates use this relaxation and the natural deepening of breathing that occurs to help patients release unconscious feelings, attitudes, and memories which may be the ultimate causes of muscle tension and stress. Devotees believe that as this process unfolds, and the practitioner responds with light touch and words, the patient begins to release old patterns of tension and become free to experience more aliveness, new choices in life, and a greater sense of health and wellness.
