Sclerology is described as a non-invasive alternative medicine healing practice focused on the sclera – the opaque (usually white), fibrous, protective layer of the eye containing collagen and elastic fibers. Similar to Iridology which also focuses on the eye (in the case of Iridology, the iris) – the sclera is examined for information about a patient's systemic health. In Sclerology, practitioners believe that examination of the sclera reveals a great number of disease processes and is capable of showing data that is more current (to within days), while iridology is better at showing genetic tendency. While somewhat controversial among the mainstream, devotees of Sclerology suggest that their approach requires no clinical tools and is an inexpensive, non-invasive method to enhance the evaluation of patients' health. Sclerology is one of those ancient healing arts still used in modern times. Sclerology appears in 1000 year old Chinese medical texts and has been used throughout the ages by Native American healers.
