speech pathology information

Speech-language Pathology (SLP) is the study of disorders that affect speech, language, listening, and swallowing.  Speech-language Pathologists, or Speech Pathologists, are certified in the US after completing 2 year post-graduate education and a one year fellowship. Speech Pathologists commonly work with both adults and children.  For adults, therapy is provided for those who have suffered neurological damage to the speech centers of the brain either through trauma or diseases such as stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, or ALS.  Children often receive speech therapy to assist in overcoming speech impediments, learning difficulties, autism, and hearing impairments.
