aromatherapy information

Aromatherapy is an ancient healing art used in modern times that uses liquid plant materials, known as essential oils and other scented plant materials to treat or modify a patient’s health, mood or feeling of well being.  The word Aromatherapy is kind of a generic term that refers to any of the various traditions that employ essential oils alone or in combination with other alternative medical practices (like holistic massage) and spiritual beliefs. Aromatherapy is used today to both treat and prevent certain illnesses or conditions.  While somewhat controversial, proponents believe that Aromatherapy and Essential Oils work through the influence of aroma on the brain, especially the limbic system through the olfactory system. Others believe there may be a direct pharmacological effect.  While not a standard practice in mainstream medicine, Aromatherapy and Essential Oils are well accepted by many practitioners and patients throughout the world.
