In the acclaimed book Seeds Of Destruction: The Hidden Agenda of Genetic Manipulation, author F. William Engdahl outlines the corrupt process that has led to a proliferation of hazardous GMO foods in the last 2 decades.  Engdahl exposes the fact that companies such as Monsanto use legal maneuvers and other forms of control to ensure that only company approved research gets published.  These corrupted studies create an illusion of safety and efficacy of GMOs, while independent researchers have consistently discovered harmful effects of GMOs.  To attempt to censor research that might expose these GMO food hazards the GMO producers force those who use their seeds/plants/animals to consent to agreements that forbid using the GMO materials in research not approved by the manufacturer.  Monsanto, Pioneer (DuPont), and Syngenta are major GMO producers who require these agreements.

 

GMO foods often foster allergic responses and autoimmune problems, and animal studies with GMO foods have shown increased organ impairment and deaths associated with the genetically modified foods.  The manipulation of genes in foods includes inserting genes that cause a plant to generate pesticides, so farmers would buy pesticide-gene containing plant seeds every year and reduce external application of pesticides.  Mixing of animal and plant genetics also occurs, and these new artifical genetic creations can confuse the immune system of a person eating these foods, sometimes producing allergic or autoimmune responses that impair a person's health or lead to death.  Major GMO producers seek to spread their products around the world, sometimes having GMO food staples sent as "free" humanitarian aid to impoverished areas of the world.  However, the use of these GMOs has not helped world hunger decline - in fact, with ideas such as terminator seeds (Monsanto) that produce sterile plants, the companies can wield power by threatening mass starvation in areas where people might choose to stop using their products.  In Africa where GMO corn has been pushed heavily there is evidence that many people react to consuming this brand of GMO corn with immune deficiency symptoms matching those labeled as AIDS.  The motives of those promoting global use of GMOs appear far from humanitarian.

Therapies that assist with resetting DNA are becoming more prominent as increasing numbers of people are finding that their genetics are being corrupted in response to environmental hazards such as vaccines, GMO foods, and various environmental toxins.  To learn more about these approaches visit www.phinsights.com/healingdna.html

Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reaffirmed its position that the use of mercury in dental amalgam fillings is not a serious health threat. More than 100 million Americans have received amalgam fillings, which typically contain close to 50% liquid mercury bound with an alloy of other metals. For many years consumer advocate groups and health advocates have joined with scientists to point out that these fillings release toxic mercury vapors when inserted or removed and even when people are chewing. Mercury is a toxic element associated with neurological impairments and other illnesses.


The FDA claims that studies fail to show a causal relationship between amalgam fillings and the health conditions associated with mercury exposure. Many health advocates dispute the FDA's claim, pointing out that there are also many additional environmental sources of mercury and heavy metal exposure that are contributing to these health problems and making it increasingly more difficult to isolate the extent to which the fillings themselves contribute to these illnesses. Other sources of mercury and additional toxic metals include vaccines, industrial pollution, batteries, and personal care products. Furthermore, military atmospheric manipulation aerosols widely sprayed in the skies since the 1990s are reported to contain toxic levels of barium and other elements that can produce harm similar to that associated with mercury toxicity.


Leading natural health advocates point out that acknowledging mercury amalgam hazards would create a major legal and financial liability for dentists and dental amalgam manufacturers. They believe that the FDA and the ADA (American Dental Association) are sweeping this under the rug, even while the use of amalgam fillings has greatly decreased as dental professionals have recognized the danger of using these. Dentists are known to have statistically high suicide rates and high mercury levels in their blood and hair. They are exposed to mercury vapors so it is in their own interest as well as patients' interest to halt using mercury amalgam in their practice. There are presently a great number of practitioners of dentistry who are considered biological dentists or holistic dentists and who advertise that they do not use mercury fillings. Many of these dentists also assist patients in safe removal of existing mercury amalgam, a practice that is often helpful in addressing health problems associated with mercury exposure.

In a new PR ploy, The American Psychiatric Association (APA) has announced that it will end the practice of allowing pharmaceutical companies to sponsor meals and educational seminars at its annual meetings. According to the APA's CEO James Scully "There is a perception that accepting meals provided by pharmaceutical companies may have a subtle influence on doctors' prescribing habits." Scully added "While industry-funded meals used to be normal operating procedure at medical meetings, a sea change is currently underway in how we manage industry relationships. What was acceptable five years ago isn't necessarily acceptable today." Recent disclosures at Harvard University have revealed that psychiatrists have often hidden their financial ties to pharmaceutical companies. As part of a probe into doctor-drug industry ties, U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley had recently asked the APA for information on its financial relationships with the pharmaceutical industry.


According to APA President Nada Stotland, the APA was reviewing its conflict-of-interest policies even before the Harvard scandal broke. In 2002, the APA implemented a ban on expensive gifts to doctors from drug companies. Another common practice is for drug companies to fund continuing education seminars for health professionals at prominent medical conferences. Many of these continuing education seminars include free meals. The APA is one of the first doctors' groups to prohibit industry-funded meals and seminars at its conferences. Critics believe that these new rules do not go far enough, however. Shortly after the APA issued its new guidelines, the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine recommended an end to gifts of money, objects and drug samples from pharmaceutical companies to doctors.


Unfortunately, these conflicts of interest are somewhat superficial in comparison to other avenues through which pharmaceutical companies dominate the practice of medicine. In the realm of research, money to carry out studies is supplied by grants from drug companies, and journals that publish research in medical fields are often highly dependent upon revenues from advertisements by pharmaceutical manufacturers. Furthermore, government agencies that regulate health care, drugs, and health insurance are often filled with people who have current or previous ties to pharmaceutical corporations. For many decades government agencies have fostered an allopathic medicine monopoly over health care. Lobbying and campaign contributions from the drug companies and medical institutions ensure that laws are passed which support their business interests, which often are antagonistic to the public welfare.


Research that explores non-drug approaches to mental health, especially holistic therapies that include nutrition, mind-body therapies, and therapies that go beyond mere cognitive and behavioral approaches are minimally funded. Positive empirical findings and clinical reports from alternative therapies are widely ignored, with limited exposure to these therapies provided in the training received by psychiatrists and other mental health care practitioners. Any logical analysis of this system would cause one to begin to suspect that pharmaceutical companies manipulate the health care system and physicians' education in order to support their own businesses and suppress interest in using competing therapies. The APA's current policy change appears to be a public relations ploy rather than a sign of any meaningful shift away from allowing the pharmaceutical industry to dominate and subvert the practice of psychiatry.

As Americans swelter in the summer sun it is helpful to know about astaxanthin, the carotenoid that blocks ultra violet damage to the skin. Astaxanthin has been referred to as nature's sunscreen, while it does the most to foster health when ingested, making it a valuable nutritional supplement. It helps clear fine lines and wrinkles, promotes skin elasticity and moisture content, and reduces inflammation and cell damage that can lead to premature aging. Recent research has documented the ability of astaxanthin to increase cellular energy, protect against and treat cancer, protect against damage to the brain and nervous system, and halt the progression of complications from diabetes. Astaxanthin is one of many powerful micronutrients found in algaes and seaweeds that offer amazing health benefits.


People who study health and nutrition have been impressed by the properties of the blue green pigment in marine microalgae, and have recognized spirulina blue-green algae and chlorella as superfoods. These algaes contain immune boosting selenium and other cancer-busting compounds. Their high chlorophyll content makes them great cleansing and alkalizing additions to one's diet. Another microalgae, with the scientific name Haematococcus pluvialis, contains primarily dark red pigment. This pigment is the richest known source of the carotenoid astaxanthin. Only phytoplankton, algae, plants, and certain bacteria and fungi are able to synthesize carotenoids such as astaxanthin. Animals, including humans, must consume carotenoids as part of their diet. Astaxanthin is found in many types of seafood and it gives the reddish-orange color to salmon, shrimp, red fish, and lobster.


Scientists in Rome, Italy compared the abilities of various carotenoids to modulate UVA (ultraviolet light) related injury. Fibroblasts from skin were exposed to moderate doses of UVA, which stimulated cell death, increased levels of free radicals and other reactive substances, decreased antioxidant enzymes activities, and promoted membrane disturbance and enzyme denaturing of hemoglobin. The fibroblasts were treated with carotenoids including astaxanthin 24 hours before exposure to UVA. Of the carotenoids tested, only astaxanthin exhibited a pronounced photoprotective effect and countered all of the UVA induced alterations to a significant extent. (Experimental Dermatology, March)


Mitochondria are the cellular power centers where food is turned into energy in the form of ATP. During this process, oxygen is released, producing several oxygen-derived free radicals that play an important role in various diseases. Oxidative stress is a critical factor for many diseases. Scientists in Japan recently found that astaxanthin decreased oxidative stress and protected cultured cells from free radicals. They found that astaxanthin improved the ability of the mitochondria to remain in a reduced state and maintain its functional integrity under oxidative challenge. Astaxanthin is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier in mammals, a unique and important property for an antioxidant. This characteristic allows astaxanthin to extend its superior antioxidant activity to the central nervous system, which is highly susceptible to damage by free radicals. In a recent study researchers decided that carotenoids such as astaxanthin should be referred to as "antiradicals" rather than as free radical scavengers, since they offer dual forms of protection against free radicals by either donating or accepting electrons. These researchers determined the antiradical capacity of various carotenoids and found that vitamin E is the most effective antiradical in terms of its electron donor capacity, while the most effective antiradical in terms of its electron acceptor capacity is astaxanthin. In a current Newsweek report by journalist Sharon Begley, new research exposes a serious flaw in the medical establishment's understanding of Alzheimer's Disease and approach to treating it. Begley describes the story of researcher Sam Gandy, who was skeptical upon first hearing about a Russian antihistamine that had been shown in research to stop the cognitive decline of Alzheimer's, with benefits lasting at least 12 months (compared with the six to nine months symptom improvements associated with current Alzheimer's drugs). Gandy quickly became convinced that there was something to the efficacy data and began studying the drug, called dimebolin. That yielded an even bigger surprise: in studies unveiled at the International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease, in Vienna, dimebolin was shown to increase the amount of the very molecule that conventional medical belief about Alzheimer's holds is responsible for the disease.


The molecule that has been associated with Alzheimer's Disease is called beta amyloid. Although some scientists have been questioning the belief that it causes Alzheimer's, its culpability in the genesis of this illness has continued as dogma. As a result, drug companies everywhere are focusing research on ways to prevent or destroy beta amyloid and the plaques it forms in the brain. When Gandy, of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, and Gandy's colleagues conducted a series of experiments in cells and in Alzheimer's mouse models to gauge the effect of dimebolin on beta amyloid, they found that dimebolin caused a large increase in beta amyloid.


In the words of the Newsweek writer "Obviously, this means that amyloid-busting compounds that companies hope to turn into drugs might be a seriously misguided approach. And plaque-clearing drugs may be not only useless against Alzheimer's, but possibly dangerous. One emerging idea gaining a lot of credibility is that the plaques are like toxic-waste sites, binding up bad-for-the-brain molecules. Open the toxic-waste dump, and you release the brain-poisoning molecules. That makes you wonder just how bad an idea vaccines against amyloid are (and not only because in one high-profile clinical trial they caused brain inflammation in some volunteers, forcing the trial to end early). If vaccines "work," in the sense of stimulating the immune system to destroy plaques, it might be the brain equivalent of releasing all the poisons in an encased Superfund site."

 


Gandy reports "Long story short: [Alzheimer's mouse models] developed aging-related memory impairment that was NOT exacerbated by adding a second gene that caused much of the amyloid beta to deposit as plaques. The mice that never developed plaques lifelong were just as impaired as those with plaques." To put this research in context, Gandy stated "I would not say that our results refute the amyloid hypothesis, ...but we clearly raise some issues that must be resolved. Perhaps Dimebon (dimebolin) is such a potent neuroprotectant that doubling the amyloid concentration is still completely neutralized. Perhaps Dimebon raises amyloid acutely, but lowers it chronically. Maybe Dimebon does good by flushing amyloid beta out of the neuron." Or maybe targeting amyloid beta is a seriously wrong approach.


This conondrum is common in medical research, where scientists jump to quick conclusions and ignore the maxim that correlation does not equal causation. To understand how a system functions you have to view and understand the activity of the entire system. Most research only examines a few components of a system, imagining them to be isolated from other variables and influences. In the case of the beta amyloid plaques, it is quite possible that the plaques are places where the body seeks to isolate and quarantine hazardous chemicals. In some people there is minimal presence of the toxin buildup and thus no need for the amyloid plaques. In others, there may be a heavy or medium level of toxin buildup but a deficiency in the body's ability to create these plaques. In a third category there could be people with a lot of toxins built up and an average level of beta amyloid activity that can't keep up with the amount of toxins being built up. Thus, both of the later categories would present a great risk for the development of cognitive decline and dementia diagnosed as Alzheimer's disease.


To understand this more clearly researchers will need to look at natural Alzheimer's prevention aids such as antioxidants like turmeric and flavonoid compounds. If these are associated with a decrease in the amyloid plaque then it would seem likely that they are helping the body detoxify chemicals that are so problematic that the body sends the beta amyloids to encase the toxins and limit the damage they might do. This current lack of understanding about the beta amyloid plaque is similar to the ongoing misconception about cholesterol and heart disease. Cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, it is actually the body's attempt to treat the buildup of other compounds that do clog the arteries. Most of the body's cholesterol is created in the liver and is not from dietary sources - the body has an intelligent reason for its cholesterol production. Researchers have found that cow's milk protein and refined sugar are key in causing cholesterol levels to elevate, and when people remove these from their diet cholesterol lowers. It is the refined sugar and casein (milk protein) along with other disruptive compounds such as hydrogenated and fried oils that are contributing to cardiovascular illness, as lowering cholesterol with drugs is not reducing cardiovascular illness significantly even though physicians are prescribing statin drugs to artificially lower cholesterol in millions of patients.


Any drugs that claim to clear plaques in Alzheimer's patients will likely be ineffective in preventing the progression of the illness, while natural foods and supplements that help the brain and body detoxify have already been correlated with improved functioning - plaques might be reduced if the toxins they encase are cleared away, although they might also rise temporarily if they are needed to neutralize toxins in the brain until they can be broken down and cleared in a safe manner. This may become clearer as further research is conducted looking at Alzheimer's in a more holistic way.

Here in part 2 are pieces of information that anyone can quickly confirm with a Google search... and then begin to analyze and consider how these facts all fit into a larger picture of what is being carried out in our civilization and how that impacts our health.  I have removed a couple items at the end of data set 2, which were of a more speculative nature rather than sharing specific facts.


DATA SET 1 (From Natural Solutions Foundation President, Major General Albert Stubblebine III, US Army, Ret.)


1. An "informal" [e.g., illegal] clinical trial of the Avian Flu vaccine on about 200 Polish vagrants resulted in 11 immediate deaths and an additional set of 20 later deaths (approximately 15% of the test population). The doctors and nurses involved were charged with murder. (Fact. 2008)
2. Approximately 3500 Chinese children died in an Avian Flu vaccine experiment. (Rumor, 2008)
3. The Philippine High Court convicted WHO (The World Health Organization) of involuntarily sterilizing over 3 million Philippina women through the use of vaccines. (Fact)
4. The WHO in 1985 documented that one of its' primary goals for the use of a sterility vaccine disguised as a smallpox vaccine was to "eliminate 150 million excess Sub Saharan Africans". (Fact, 1985-ongoing)
5. The WHO 5-shot vaccine programs for tetanus in third world countries in South and Central America caused the involuntary sterilization of millions of women. (Fact, ongoing)
6. Monsanto's MON 810 corn causes sterility according to studies published by the Austrian Government. (Fact, 2009)
7. Monsanto's MON 810 corn contains the Cauliflower Mosaic Virus which, when ingested, lowers the bodies CD 4 cells to a point which, on immune tests, indicate that a person has HIV/AIDS. The lowered CD 4 cells results from eating GMO corn, the staple of the diet in many parts of Black Africa. MON 810 is grown in Europe for animal feed and in many places, including the US, around the world for human food. (Fact, ongoing)
8. Merck's Gardasil vaccine causes death, collapse and chronic illness in young woman and girls, including a new, never-before described "disease" called Juvenile ALS, a fatal condition in which the nervous system is slowly destroyed while consciousness remains unimpaired. This vaccine increases cervical cancer by 44.7% in women and girls who already have Human Papilloma Virus. Cervical Cancer is easily detected and cured in early stages and is not a major killer of women. Gardasil contains substances which may cause sterility in women receiving it and any protection lasts only a few years, so 9 year olds will probably not be sexually active by the time this protection has worn off. (Fact, ongoing)
9. Baxter International Inc. was in the process of applying for a contract to provide Avian Flu vaccines to European countries in the event of an Avian Flu epidemic. Its Austrian laboratory shipped Seasonal Flu vaccines to 18 countries in Europe. A laboratory technician tested the Baxter Seasonal Flu vaccines sent to the Czech Republic and discovered that they were contaminated with a highly pathogenic version of the Avian Flu, 72 Kilograms of it, although Level 3 precautions were in place and such contamination "could not have happened accidentally" according to experts in the field. No documentation of the destruction of this highly infective material has been provided although the Austrian Health Ministry insists that the deadly viral material was destroyed. (Fact, 2008, 2009)
10. A WHO investigation into the Baxter contaminated vaccine issue resulted in NO findings and in NO disciplinary actions. An Austrian investigation into the same events yielded the same results. (Fact, 2009)
11. Baxter has been rewarded with a lead role in developing, producing and disseminating the Swine Flu vaccine for the upcoming pandemic. (Fact, 2009)
12. Swine Flu was first identified to the public as a serious problem in April/May 2009 when 168 persons in Mexico were confirmed by CDC and WHO to have died from the Swine Flu. This number was later revised downward to only 16 deaths. (Fact, 2009)
13. It normally takes a minimum of 12 to 18 months to create a vaccine after a specific virus has been identified. (Fact)
14. The US Government has spent more than a billion dollars to develop and to make available the Swine flu vaccine for a disease which poses no significant health threat. (Fact, 2009)
15. The "Seed Culture" for the Swine Flu virus was provided to vaccine companies in May, 2009. Baxter International Inc. announced in June, 2009 that they would have their vaccine ready in July, 2009 . (Fact, 2009)
16. A WHO container of Swine Flu virus from Mexico City exploded on a passenger train in Luzon, Switzerland. All of the current Swiss cases of Swine Flu are from the area where the explosion took place. It is illegal to ship pathogenic viruses in this way. (Fact, 2009)
17. A significant number of virologists and other scientists are on record stating that the Swine Flu was created in a laboratory and could not evolve naturally. (Fact, 2009)


DATA SET 2


1. Canada, Sweden, Norway, France and other countries have announced intentions to vaccinate every man, woman and child. To do so, they are ordering 2 shots per person of untested, unsafe and unnecessary Swine Flu Vaccines from a variety of manufacturers. The US Departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services both stated in early 2009 that they would do so "beginning with those who want it". (Fact, 2009)
2. President Obama announced to the public shortly after his inauguration that every man, woman and child should receive the Avian Flu vaccine this fall along with seasonal flu shots this coming Fall. President Obama is on record saying that he believes that vaccinations should be mandatory. (Fact, 2009)
3. The United States has spent $714 Million GPS mapping every front door of every house and apartment in the country and listing who lives in each house or apartment under the direction of the White House. (Fact, 2009)
4. Many people have reported that they have received calls at home or at work from agencies of the US Government inquiring about the "number of unvaccinated children in the household". (Fact, 2009)
5. The United States, Norway, Sweden, Austria and other countries have announced that in case of a Swine Flu pandemic all health and security authority shall revert to teams and command centers run by the WHO. (Fact, 2009)

In recent decades many prominent scientists and politicans have announced the perceived threat of overpopulation and the urgent need, in their view, to take action to reverse global population growth. China, the most populous nation in the world, has maintained a one child per couple policy and has a governing system that effectively stifles dissent and aggressively enforces state policies.


Elsewhere, steps to shrink the global population have been primarily covert, and have included the spread of fertility and longevity reducing chemicals through food, drugs, air, and water, without the consent of the population. Many measures claimed to be provided for public health are not intended to foster individual health but are instead intended to facilitate a healthier society in the view of those who engineer civilization. From their perspective, the population must be reduced by a sizeable margin in a relatively short amount of time in order to support the well-being of those who remain. To avoid any public philosophical discussions of who should be euthanized or kept from breeding, those expediting these agendas merely plan how they can carry out measures to achieve their goals without the public ever realizing what is truly happening.


As an example, journalist Paul Joseph Watson in the UK has reviewed existing research and reported how

global sperm counts have dropped by a third since 1989 and by half in the past 50 years. The rate of decline is accelerating as more and more couples find it difficult to conceive children. The rate of decline is as much as 50 per cent in the last 30 years for white European men. Population suppression is clearly occurring in many areas of Europe and America. Hypothesized causes of this include cellphone radiation, soy products, and female hormones from hormone replacement products seeping into the water supply. Environmental pollution from industry and pharmaceutical products has certainly contributed, yet new research has uncovered that additional chemicals known as Antiandrogens are now finding their way into the water supply.

 


"The University of Exeter is now working with chemists at the University of Sussex to establish exactly what the chemicals in question are, and hence to understand how they are being released into waste water." John Holdren, U.S. President Obama's leading science czar, openly proposed medicating the municipal water supplies with sterility inducing chemicals in his 1977 book Ecoscience. He believed that adding a sterility inducing agent to drinking water and staple foods would be an effective way to reduce population.


Antiandrogens are capable of preventing or inhibiting the biological activities of androgens, male sex hormones. Antiandrogens used in pesticides sprayed on our food have been recognized as

"endocrine disruptors." These compounds have been found to "induce demasculinization in rats," making male rats unable to impregnate females. These newly discovered poisons, combined with contraceptive pills and other hormone-based drugs have literally had the effect of gender-bending no less than a third of male fish in all British rivers, which causes them to produce eggs and make them infertile. Dozens of species besides fish, such as polar bears, bald eagles, otters and whales are being affected by these chemicals. In waterways that are located close to sewage treatment facilities, about 80 per cent of male fish were found to have female characteristics.

 


One of the most promising means of inducing population reduction is the creation of apparent infectious disease epidemics. Once declared, an epidemic would give authorities power to forcibly treat those who are ill and forcibly vaccinate those who haven't come down with the cited illness. The medications used to treat viral illnesses are often more dangerous than the virus since they can impair natural immune response. Vaccinations are also a hazard to the immune system and can induce a number of illnesses that can greatly reduce the reproductive potential of citizens. Autism is one common condition associated with vaccine-induced illness, and since autistic people generally have great social and communication deficits they are less likely to form bonds and produce offspring than persons unaffected by autism. The amount of vaccine-induced deaths and illnesses is greatly underreported, yet even the acknowledged harm caused by vaccines raises great concern for many people who feel bullied into getting shots or having their children subjected to a barrage of immunizations.

Medical researchers have come to believe that some antioxidant compounds, called flavonoids, can help keep our brains healthy as we age. Flavonoids and other antioxidants have been shown to benefit the heart and reduce cancer risks. Now there is an increasing amount of evidence that they also protect healthy brain functioning and help prevent Alzheimer's disease and cognitive impairments that occur in many elderly people. Not all flavonoids we consume will reach the brain, and clinical trials with some antioxidants have not shown significant effects on preventing or reversing dementia, so researchers are focusing on some specific antioxidants as they identify nutrients that can help prevent or slow the development of Alzheimer's disease.


Antioxidants are biochemical compounds that neutralize dangerous oxygen free radicals. Free radicals are destructive molecules that damage cell walls and can corrupt DNA. Free radicals build up in the body when we are exposed to toxins from food, air, and beverages, and they are generated in our body when we experience stress. Thus, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and reducing stress in our lives is important to help prevent free radical damage. Part of a healthy lifestyle includes having a diet high in antioxidants and using natural antioxidant extract supplements to boost the body's ability to clear free radicals. Antioxidants are present in high amounts in many fruits and vegetables, and the overall level of these in a food is measured as the ORAC value, the oxygen radical absorbance capacity.


Scientist studying the brain and dementia now believe that flavonoids can also protect the brain through other mechanisms besides neutralizing free radicals. Recent studies looking at Alzheimer’s disease have concluded that green tea and grape flavonoids can reduce damage to the brain and in some cases improve mental performance. One group at King’s College London has focused on the flavonoid called epicatechin which is abundant in a number of foods, including cocoa. Dr. Robert Williams, the biochemist who lead the research, said: "We have found that epicatechin protects brain cells from damage but through a mechanism unrelated to its antioxidant activity." Other Alzheimer's researchers have focused on curcumin, a compound found in turmeric, the Indian spice used in curry. Curcumin has been found to reduce beta amyloid protein plaque buildup in the brain and scientists are now exploring how similar compounds found in ginger and rosemary spices might also affect this marker of Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer’s is closely associated with clumps of the disruptive beta amyloid protein that build up in the brain. Dr. Williams, who described his research at the British Pharmacological Society’s Summer 2009 Meeting in Edinburgh, said that flavonoids seemed to protect the brain against the buildup of these amyloid plaques. He concluded: "Although our findings support the general concept that dietary intake of flavonoid-rich foods or supplements could impact on the development and progression of dementia, they are clearly insufficient to make any sort of nutritional recommendations at this stage." This cautious statement should not discourage anyone from immediately enhancing antioxidant consumption - it merely indicates that the dosage and types of antioxidants that will specifically help prevent or treat Alzheimer's are topics that need more study.

Dr. Gary Schwartz, researcher in consciousness and holistic healing, has conducted landmark research at the University of Arizona, including research sponsored by The National Institutes of Health Center on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Reports published in journals and described in his book The Energy Healing Experiments, demonstrate that energy healing therapies have shown impressive benefits in experimental research. The benefits of massage and acupuncture have been well documented in medical research, yet many physicians and laypersons are skeptical of therapies that claim to produce an effect without the need for any physical pressure or touch. There are a multitude of studies that show how vibrational energies affect our physiological and psychological states. Thus, therapies that apply vibrational energies would logically tend to show some effect. The vibrational energies can include sound, light, color, electromagnetic frequencies, and the energies that radiate from a healer's hands.


Energy healing treatments have been shown to support pain relief, to speed up healing and recovery from illnesses and injuries, to lower blood pressure in those with hypertension, to help relieve stress, depression, and anxiety, and even to enhance the health and growth of animals and plants. Energy healing therapies appear to be a valuable and important component of holistic health care and health maintenance. Energy healing treatments are difficult to standardize for research, since each healer is unique in his/her skill of projecting energy and intention for healing purposes, and there is an intuitive element in assessing the energy state of the recipient and guiding the application of energy to restore a healthy, balanced energy flow. At present, it appears unlikely that Western allopathic medicine will provide much acceptance for energy healing therapies, since these approaches are patient-centered rather than disease-focused or standardized according to a diagnosis and prescribed treatment model. Additionally, many energy therapies can be applied by anyone, including laypersons, and would reduce the need for professional physicians and pharmaceutical medicine treatments. This could be seen as a challenge to the economic viability of existing treatment institutions and has already produced resistance from these institutions, even while energy therapies have provided sometimes dramatic benefits to recipients.


Therapies such as Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch, Quantum Touch, Pranic Healing, and other energy healing and spiritual healing techniques can be applied with or without touching the recipient. Those experiencing these treatments often report feelings of warmth, tingling, and other sensations that occur as the energy field radiating from the healer interacts with their own energy system. Experiences of deep relaxation or tension release are also typical of these energy healing therapies. Some people compare these therapies to massage, as massage helps release tension in muscles and other tissues through physical manipulation. Energy healing therapies can be seen as releasing tension on deeper levels of one's energy system. By using the term "deeper," it is non-physical layers of one's being that are being referred to. Rather than applying pressure more deeply to the body as in deep tissue massage, energy healers can tune into deeper layers of a person's energy system and access the layers where emotions, subconscious memories, and thought patterns are held. These layers govern what is being manifested on the physical level, so there are many physical issues that can be healed or alleviated through energy healing therapies.
