We see Candida problems every day at Essentials for Health. It is a very difficult condition that will NOT go away by itself, but it can get worse and cause a more serious condition of Leaky Gut Syndrome.
Candidiasis is a condition of disbiosis, or imbalance...not a disease. This stress related condition is marked by a seriously compromised immune response and it’s extremely difficult to overcome.
Candida Albicans yeast itself is common, normally living harmlessly in the GI tract. When immune response is compromised due to repeated use of antibiotics, birth control pills, a high sugar diet, stress, toxic metals, or lack of sleep, the body losses its intestinal balance and candida yeasts multiply.
More troublesome, Candida has the ability to change from a yeast into a fungus. As a fungus, candida is invasive with its root like tendrils that penetrate the intestinal wall, paving the way for Leaky Gut Syndrome. (more about Leaky Gut Syndrome on our next blog.)
Candida has the ability to infect any part of the body: colon, nail beds, feet, vaginal tract, mouth, ear canal, sinuses, or esophagus. If left unchecked, candida colonies will flourish throughout the body continuing to release toxins into the bloodstream.
Signs & Symptoms
There are fairly defined stages of candida overgrowth symptoms.
1st Symptoms Heartburn, chronic indigestion with gas and bloating, recurring cystitis or vaginitis, chronic fungal dermatitis, skin rashes like eczema or acne, and nail infections.
2nd Symptoms Allergic reactions, chronic bronchitis, hives, sinusitis, hay fever, chronic headaches or migraines, muscle pain, sensitivity to odors. For children, ear infections are a sign of candida overgrowth.
3rd Symptoms Nervous system reactions, extreme irritability, confusion, a ‘spacey’ feeling, night time panic attacks, memory lapses and trouble concentrating, fatigue, and lethargy, often followed by acute depression.
4th Symptoms Gland and organ dysfunctions, hypothyroidism, adrenal failure, and hypoglycemia, ovarian problems, frigidity and infertility, male impotence, low sex drive.
Unfortunately, most of the orthodox medical community still chooses to not recognize, diagnose, or treat Candidiasis. If you feel you may be infected you should seek a professional who can help you overcome this very difficult condition.
Dietary restrictions are an important part of the treatment of Candidiasis. Avoiding all sugar producing food is imperative for the first critical weeks. Depriving the yeast of the nutrients it requires will facilitate its die-off. Avoid carbohydrates, sugars, over-processed foods, dairy, fried foods, molds, and gluten breads. You should maintain a diet of protein, vegetables, olive or coconut oil, eggs, brown rice, and tofu. Drink herbal teas, pure water, green tea, and miso soup every day.
Using a quality yeast cleanse and 200 billion probiotic is equally important. We carry products specifically formulated by Advanced Naturals to combat candidiasis. They are the best we have found to kill off the bad bacteria and re-colonize the colon with good bacteria.
If you feel that you may be suffering with Candidiasis please call our office and request a self test that will help you decide if you are having problems with yeast overgrowth.
