Do colonics wash out intestinal flora?

The truth is that the washing out of putrefied material in the large intestine increases the good intestinal flora. Good bacteria can only breed in a clean environment, which has been washed free of putrefaction and its accompanying harmful bacteria. This is why the intestines of a newborn baby immediately begin to grow good intestinal flora. Each time you clean out the putrefying rubbish and make a better environment for the good flora, they start to multiply immediately in their natural media. It also stands to reason that valuable nutrients can better be absorbed in a clean environment than in a putrefied one.  If you are concerned, taking a good probiotic will help replace the flora.

How does a colonic compare to an enema?

An enema only reaches the rectum and lower part of the colon, whereas with a colonic, the entire length of the colon (the large intestine is approximately 5 feet in length) is reached. Colon hydrotherapy is many more times effective than an enema. According to learned centenarian Dr. Norman Walker, "One colon irrigation is equivalent to 30 enemas."

How many sessions will be needed?
This is a difficult question to answer until our licensed colon therapist has treated you.  There are many factors to consider.  On average, four to six colonics over a four-week period is generally needed to cleanse the entire five feet of the colon.  Colonic irrigation is a process, following the recommendations of your colon therapist is very important.

How long does a colonic take?
Probably 90% of all colonics take about 30 minutes. It could also be shorter or longer than that, depending on how quickly your body responds to the therapy.  The condition the colon is in plays an important role in beginning colonics.

Why doesn’t a single colonic completely empty the colon?

It can!  Most people are on a typical American diet consisting of wheat, soda, coffee, cheese, and too much meat.  We are not a society of water drinkers; therefore, we are in a chronic state of dehydration.  Too many are impacted with years of accumulated fecal matter.  Substantial work must be done to remove it. The objective should not be an empty colon, but rather a well functioning colon.

What preparation is needed?
None. Abdominal massage will be performed during the treatment and it would be uncomfortable on a full stomach, therefore it is recommended that you avoid eating a heavy meal two hours before your appointment time.

Will it help to lose weight?
Most people who eat the standard American diet have about 5-10 pounds of matter stored in the colon.  According to the autopsy, John Wayne had 40 pounds of impacted fecal matter in his body at death.  One of the simplest ways to lose weight is to cleanse the colon. A pint is equal to a pound, so depending on how many pints are removed; significant weight loss can be achieved.    Cleansing the colon is just the beginning of a new level of health. Combined with a proper diet and exercise regime, it will undoubtedly facilitate weight loss.

Is it messy?

No. There is no mess or odor as all of the waste is carried out of the body enclosed within a hose and this is piped directly into the plumbing.

Does it hurt?
No. The insertion of the speculum may feel a little strange, but it is small and does not hurt. The main feeling during the procedure is that you are going to the bathroom, which of course you are!   You will feel pressure throughout the treatment, but not pain.  It may be uncomfortable at times, as your peristaltic action is stimulated, but it is not painful.

Is it safe?

Yes.  All instruments are either disposed of or sterilized between clients.  Our autoclave system is the same sterilization method used by dentists. Thousands of colonics have been given safely using warm filtered water that is introduced at a low gravitational pressure so there is no danger of bowel perforation.  Unlike the regular use of laxatives, colonics are not habit forming and in fact improves colon muscle tone, and peristaltic action.

Can one work directly after having a colonic?

Certainly. You can resume all regular activities, just as you would after a bowel movement.
