The following story relates the astonishing results that Cuban doctors achieved using a homeopathic preparation to combat an annual epidemic of Leptospirosis. This disease, carried by infected animals (typically rats and opossums), can cause flu-like illness in its first stage. After rallying one will develop a stiff neck and nerve inflammations of the eye, spinal cord or brain. Internal organs can be seriously affected and death can ensue.

Without sufficient medical resources to combat the expected outbreak, the doctors turned to a complementary system of health-care, homeopathy. The results were astonishing. If these results can be confirmed, this will be a signal indication of the safety and efficacy of this type of medicine.

Homeopathy Associated With Dramatic Reduction In Leptospirosis Infection In Cuban Population

A report of the largest study of homeopathy ever undertaken, based on data from over 11 million people (the entire population of Cuba), is published in the journal Homeopathy.1 It provides fascinating evidence that a highly dilute substance, prepared according to homeopathic principles, may contribute to the prevention of Leptospirosis.

Leptospirosis (also known as Weil's Disease) is an infectious disease carried by rats and caused by bacteria called spirochetes. People contract the disease through contact with contaminated water. Leptospirosis occurs worldwide, but it is most common in the tropics during periods of heavy rain.

The Health Ranger, Mike Adams posted an article titled

Women: Before getting pregnant, check out your man's diet

It concerns the "genetic collapse" that appears to be happening especially in the industrialized Western world. This is characterized by decreasing fertility, chronic degenerative diseases, cancer etc. He quotes from a Georgetown University Medical Center study that was presented at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting. The study investigated the risk of contracting cancer in rats fed a diet of "junk food". The astonishing conclusion was that the increased risk was transmitted to two succeeding generations of rats. In other words, if the rats were fed the junk food diet not only were they more likely to get cancer but their children and grandchildren also inherited an increased risk. What is worse is that the grandchildren remained just as susceptible to the increased risk of cancer even if the parents (i.e. the children of the first group of rats on the the junk food diet) were fed a good diet. The diet appears to cause an epi-genetic change in how one's genes function or express which is passed on for at least two generations.

That study reminded me of Dr. Pottinger's cat experiments a summary of which, I have copied below. His experiments showed that cats that were fed a poor diet of cooked and de-vitalized foods were unable to reproduce after the third generation. The third generation was either sterile or their offspring were either stillborn or died soon after birth.

We are now living in the fourth generation of people who have been raised on modern industrialized food. While there are many factors that could also be involved, e.g. injected toxins, environmental toxins, environmental estrogens, etc.) The problems that de-natured foods cause have been known for decades and were documented by Dr. Weston Price and experimentally proven by Dr. Pottinger.

If you are having chronic health problems talk to you chiropractor, get off of junk food and on to a whole food, natural diet, including whole food supplements and lots of raw organic fruits and vegetables. If you still think that your diet is not contributing to your problems, read this article and watch the following video.

This is the story of Dr. Pottinger's famous cat study this is taken from Peter Glickman's Raw Food Site.

Pottenger’s Cats and raw food

>Pottenger’s Cats — A Study in Nutrition

by Francis M. Pottenger, Jr., MD

From 1932 to 1942, Dr. Francis Marion Pottenger, Jr. (frequently misspelled Pottinger) conducted an experiment to determine the effects of heat-processed food on cats.

This ten-year cat study was prompted by the high death rate among his laboratory cats undergoing operations to remove their adrenal glands. At that time, there were no chemical procedures to measure the strength of adrenal extract. So, manufacturers used cats. Cats die without their adrenal glands. So, the amount of extract the cats needed to keep them alive allowed the manufacturers to calibrate the strength of their product.

Dr. Pottenger fed his cats a diet of raw milk, cod liver oil and cooked meat scraps, which included liver, tripe, sweetbreads, brains, heart and muscle. This was considered the optimum diet.

Concerned with the cats poor postoperative survival, Dr. Pottenger noticed the cats showed a decrease in their reproductive capacity and many of the kittens born in the laboratory had skeletal deformities and organ malfunctions.

By a quirk of fate, since the number of cats donated by his neighbors in Monrovia, California kept increasing, he couldn’t handle the demand for cooked meat scraps. So, he ordered raw meat scraps from a local meat packing plant, including the viscera, muscle and bone. Always a scientist, Dr. Pottenger fed these raw meat scraps to a segregated group of cats so that he could observe any change. Within a few months, this group appeared healthier, their kittens more vigorous, and they had a higher survival rate after their operations.

The contrast between the two sets of cats was so startling, it prompted Dr. Pottenger to perform a controlled experiment to verify these facts scientifically.

The experiment included 900 cats over four generations and was well documented by Dr. Pottenger. The cats were divided into five groups. All the groups were supplied the same basic minimal diet, but the major portion of the diets were varied. Two of the groups were fed whole foods (raw milk and meat – real foods for cats). The other three groups were given processed foods: pasteurized, evaporated and condensed milk.

All four generations of the raw meat and raw milk groups remained healthy throughout their normal lifespans. The first generation of all three processed food groups developed diseases and illnesses near the end of their lives. The second generation of all three processed food groups developed diseases and illnesses in the middle of their lives. The third generation of all three processed food groups developed diseases and illnesses in the beginning of their lives and many died before six months of age. There was no fourth generation in any of the three processed food groups. Either the third generation parents were sterile or the fourth generation cats died before birth! Remember, all four generations of the raw food groups were healthy throughout their normal lifespans.

As for applying his results to human nutrition, Dr. Pottenger said, “While no attempt will be made to correlate the changes in the animals studied with malformations found in humans, the similarity is so obvious that parallel pictures will suggest themselves.”

Does this give you an understanding of why so many children are now developing cancer? Why there were no fertility clinics 30 years ago?

There is no similar experiment in medical literature. The findings were supervised by Dr. Pottenger along with Dr. Alvin Foord, professor of pathology at the University of Southern California and pathologist at the Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

These studies met the most rigorous scientific standards of their day.

Great news! One of my patients is expecting again. Her dad told me this morning. A little over two years ago his daughter told me how she and her husband had been trying for seven years to have a baby. I told her that I had had success with three other patients in increasing their fertility through chiropractic care and acupuncture. There was one condition, if we were successful, she was not to go around saying her chiropractor got her pregnant:-).

We began by addressing her hyperthyroid problem nutritionally and with acupuncture. Her cycles were very irregular and hard on her. Then we did a course of treatment which included treating the husband also. Her monthly cycles began to improve and her mood swings began to improve too. It took a lot longer than I had expected, about eleven months and about 45 treatments in all. However, a few months after the treatments ended she was pregnant and is now expecting a second baby.

I would recommend anyone who is having trouble conceiving to try chiropractic and acupuncture first. No one, of course, can guarantee results, but so far, by God's grace, I have been able to help every patient who has wanted a baby but was not able to conceive. My patient payed around $2500 for all the care she received. Compare that with fertility clinics that charge $50,000 or more and, hands down, chiropractic is the best option.

You never know what side-benefits there will be from a chiropractic adjustment. A patient this morning told me, "I don't know what you did last time, but over the weekend I found that I could take full, deep breaths for the first time in I-don't-know-how-long. I have been having trouble with asthma since December, but I just hate to take the medication unless I am suffocating. It makes me too jittery. However, this weekend I began to notice that I had no trouble now taking deep, full, cleansing breaths. I was breathing so much, I had to stop. I was making myself dizzy."

It's stories like that that make chiropractic such a satisfying profession. This patient did not come in for breathing problems. She had been attacked by a mental-patient where she works which caused her to have head, neck and upper back pain. She had had four adjustments for this current problem and today she returned for her fifth treatment with this wonderful news.

She asked me what I did differently and I really couldn't tell her. I remembered that one of her upper back vertebrae moved which before had remained stubbornly fixed. I had also adjusted the rib that was connected to that vertebra. I know that the nerves that regulate the automatic functions of the heart and lungs come from that part of the spine. I also know that instead of just adjusting her once in a while, in order to treat her injury, I was adjusting her more frequently. It often takes regular, repetitive adjustments to get a subluxated vertebra to move and the vertebra that was dysfunctioning must have needed this more intense level of treatment to get it to move.  All of these factors probably contributed to this wonderful result.

What did change and what was different is that her nervous system was functioning properly now. That was the main thing that changed. Her lungs and chest muscles did not change over night.  Obviously, they had at least potentially been able to function just fine. Her diet did not change. There was no miracle pill or vitamin that she started taking over the weekend. The only thing that changed was that the flow of nerve information to her chest and lungs had been restored. Joint motion was no longer restricted. Irritation and interference to proper nerve signals had been removed. She regained normal function and her body was able to start working again like God designed it to.

I am happy that she is breathing better. She has added years to her life as a result. Impaired breathing whether from asthma or sleep apnea will eventually lead to other serious problems. In this case her unfortunate injury has been a blessing in disguise.

I had a great day today at Black Mountain Natural Foods at their health fair. This is the first time I have ever done a public screening and I really enjoyed it. There were several people who got their spines scanned and were very glad to know that there is actually some kind of equipment that can verify that they really do have a problem with their spinal, nervous system. Not only does it show where the problem is, but it also shows how bad it is.

Most of the people who got a scan knew that they had some problems, but a few had no idea how serious it was. That is one of the beauties of the Insight Subluxation Station it is objective proof of a problem. I was surprised myself at how severe a couple of the scans were. I have not seen such severe indications of nerve interference since I started doing scans and I have done hundreds.

I was impressed by how much spinal dysfunction is walking around untreated. It is a serious problem. If the nervous system is not operating properly, you cannot be manifesting optimal health. You can eat the best foods and drink the best water, but if the nerves cannot tell the body how to properly handle these great ingredients you are wasting a lot of good effort trying to get healthy or stay that way.

I would like to do more public screenings. I have avoided them because I thought that I would be embarrassed or that I would sit there ignored. On the contrary, the time flew, lots of people wanted to know about their neuro-spinal health and I had a wonderful time getting to know more of my neighbors. I really felt like I was performing an important service to the community. I was reminded today of the duty I have to let people know these things about their spines and to help them make sane decisions about their health.

I appreciate the good folks at Black Mountain Natural Foods here in Black Mountain, NC and I thank them for letting me be a part of their health fair. The fair continues tomorrow, Saturday, May 15. I will be there from 11:00 to 2:00. Come by and get a scan.

The web publication ChiroACCESS  just published an article titled: An Evidenced-Based Intervention for Osteoarthritis: Avocado-soybean Unsponifiables of ASU for short. This somewhat unknown dietary supplement has some of the best scientific evidence to support its efficacy. In other words, even medical researchers say it works.

This study reports that ASU “may promote OA cartilage repair by acting on subchondral bone osteoblasts”. OA is an abbreviation for OsteoArthritis which is the most common form of joint irritation. It is also called arthritis of the bones or degenerative joint disease (DJD). When joints are injured or lose proper function and alignment the joint will become irritated or inflamed. Without chiropractic treatment to restore proper motion and function the bones, ligaments and cartilage of the joint will begin to deteriorate. Eventually it will show up on X-ray as misalignment and the bones will begin to form bone spurs and become deformed while the space between the joints will be come more narrow. This can happen to any joint in the body.

OA is a painful and crippling condition. For those who suffer with it, this study of ASU is good news. Seventy-one percent of the patients in one study they cited were able to reduce their use of NSAID's (aspirin, Ibuprofen, etc.) by fifty percent.

Another study they cited indicates that ASU will even cause the joint to begin to repair itself. Apparently it stimulates the subchondral osteoblasts which are cells beneath the cartilage of the joint. While osteoblasts are cells that produce bone, they come from mesenchymal stem cells that produce both osteoblasts and chondrocytes. Chondrocytes are cartilage cells and cartilage is what makes up the shiny, white joint material on the ends of bones.

A second study found ASU “significantly reduced the progression of joint space loss”.
This is another important finding especially for those who have been told that their knees or other joints are just "bone on bone". For one thing, that "diagnosis" is hardly ever true. For another thing, it appears that this supplement helps to stimulate repair of the joint and restoration of the joint height.

I have not yet done the research to find out the best source or form of this supplement but I will. When I know more I will let you know. If any of you have used it or know more about it, please drop me a line.

I just finished listening to a pod cast of an interview between Mike Adams, the Health Ranger and actress, Suzanne Somers regarding her best selling book about alternatives to traditional slash and burn cancer treatment. This was very informative. She mentions the names of doctors around the country who have had success curing terminal cancer without chemo and radiation. Quite wisely she says of course that none of them can guarantee a cure, but one of the doctors has a 60% success rate. I'd be happy with that.

She also has interesting information on mammograms. I have long suspected what she confirms and I am thankful that they have stopped recommending regular exams starting at age 40. I hope they increase the age to 140. I cannot understand how one cures cancer with chemical toxins and radiation. Both are known carcinogens. You "cure" one cancer by giving the patient another cancer? It it madness.

More and more research is discovering the wonderful health benefits of fermented foods. Fermentation is the natural way food was preserved for centuries. Most cultures have their signature fermented foods, German sauerkraut, Korean Kimchi, Bulgarian yogurt, etc. Before refrigeration, it was a way to keep food edible. We now know that fermentation makes the nutrition in foods more bio-available. Fermented foods like yogurt are are a source of beneficial bacteria or probiotics.

If you like yogurt then you might also like kefir. Kefir is like liquid yogurt but the taste is a bit different. Good kefir drinks are wonderful and very refreshing. They too are a good source of probiotics and healthful lactobacilli. These microscopic beneficial organisms produce an abundance of helpful enzymes as well as antibiotic and anticarcinogenic compounds.

If you are drinking raw milk (which is the only form of milk I recommend, see this link) then you might want to try your hand at making your own kefir. We buy several gallons at a time for our family and usually have to freeze some of it. I would rather preserve some of that milk as kefir so I plan to give this a try. The following web site Rebuild from Depression has a lot of really good articles about food and nutrition. They also tell you how to make kefir at home.

Check out the web site and give it a try.

Worried about mercury from dental mercury amalgam filings, or cadmium from vaccinations or lead or arsenic or other heavy metals? It is getting harder to avoid toxic heavy metals. They are in the air, water and soil and they add a burden to the body's ability to adapt to stress. When the body loses the ability to adapt to stresses, ones health breaks down and one get sick.

Chiropractic is not just about popping necks and backs. Chiropractic is about living a healthy life by decreasing stresses (physical, mental, environmental) and increasing the body's power to adapt to stress. The chiropractic adjustment is one of the most powerful and rapid ways of accomplishing that goal. However, other stress factors both mental and environmental can quickly reverse the benefits of that adjustment.

If you have a toxic burden in your body that needs to be dealt with before you will be able to enjoy optimum health. Happily there is evidence that adding a simple tasty herb to your diet can help eliminate some of that toxic burden. Cilantro. That is the common name of the coriander plant. The leaves and stems of this parsley-like green herb are used in Mexican, Latin American and Asian cooking. A recent article at http://www.Naturalnews.com cites several resources that say Cilantro helps detox heavy metals.
