3 Steps To Build Your Business YOUR Way

My new favorite quote from one of my mentors, James Malinchak (courtesy of Dan Kennedy)...

Translation? Your business is not a democracy�YOU get to create the rules.

Here�s what I mean...

I was coaching this morning with one of my private clients about setting up her coaching calendar. She�s a mom, and has a two-hour window each day to work. Her time is at a premium. So I asked her to choose one day in the week that is only for coaching. She hesitated. �But what if clients aren�t available on that day and time?�

My response: �This is YOUR business, not your client�s business. When you want to work with a lawyer, and she�s only available Tuesday at 3pm, you make the time to see her, right? Clients will do the same thing for you. But YOU have to take a stand for your right to have a schedule that truly serves your needs.�

The only person that�s going to make sure your business is set up exactly the way you want it is YOU.

To help you take a stand for the business model that fits YOUR lifestyle, here are 3 steps you can take today to build your business YOUR way...

1. Get Clear On Your Vision
In your secret heart of hearts, what would you really love to spend your time doing? How many hours would you really work? Who would you really be working with? There are too many times I ask a client, �What�s your income goal?� and they answer, �I don�t know.� Take 3 minutes right now to jot down your ideal workday and your ideal income...no censoring! First thoughts, best thoughts.

2. Become A Leader
Have you ever noticed that when you work with a powerful coach, you�re never left guessing? That coach and her team are consistently guiding you to your next action. With your clients, unapologetically share your packages, your prices, your schedule, your policies. Don�t ask your clients for permission to have the business you really want. Give that to yourself.

3. Forget �Fixing� Your Clients�And Empower Them Instead
Let�s face it...a lot of us have a �savior� complex. Take my advice: work that sh*t out in therapy! Stop trying to save or fix your clients and empower them, instead. For example, when it comes time to talk about your fees during a selling conversation, tell the prospect your fee and then CLOSE YOUR MOUTH. You have no idea what your prospect is thinking...your program could be the very thing they�ve been saving for.

Imagine what it would be like if you got to be like Tina Fey...you got to put on your �Bossypants� and run your business exactly the way you want. Think about how much more FUN you�d have in your business if you weren�t constantly worried about making things okay for other people and just got to be yourself...no apologies.
