A little over 4 years ago, I got a shocking phone call in the middle
of the night that my mom was in a coma and I needed to fly to the
east coast immediately.

Apparently, the doctors thought "this was it."

I cried the whole way. There had been no time to prepare. I had
spoken to her on the phone a few days earlier and she seemed
in "normal, reasonable health."

After being in a coma for 6 days, she woke up on my 32nd birthday.
No joke. It changed my life.

My mom was going to need a lot of time consuming care. I realized
I was going to have to make a radical change in the way I did business. You see, the traditional model of seeing clients 1-1 in an office was just not going to fly anymore.

I fantasized about ways to stop trading hours for dollars andhave the flexibilityto work from anywhere in the world.

Completely by accident I discovered a few "guru's" who had already
thought of this brilliant idea. Guess what I did?

marketing themselves and their programs is "trying to be all things to all people."

Most of the solutions that experts offer can help most people in their lives - so the expert thinks that it's logical to try to persuade everyone to buy their advice and products.

The problem with this approach is that people like to buy things that seem like they were made "just for them" - not things that were made for "everyone."

Have you ever bought shampoo for blondes or volumizing conditioner? I have curly hair, the shampoo I just bought for $17 says Sexy Curly Hair on it.

Is it different than any other conditioner?

I don't know, but I chose that one over all the others because it appealed to my desire to have sexy curly hair and that alone convinced me to SPEND MORE MONEY AND choose it over all the others.

If you were struggling with belly fat and I presented these 2 programs, which would you choose?

YOUR ACTION:
Apply this concept to one of your products or programs. Write out in detail how your service serves a specific NEED. Get as specific as you can.

BONUS TIP: Think about ONE person when you do this exercise instead of a group of people. Design your program "just for them."

Start applying the "sexy curly hair" principle and your program will be the OBVIOUS choice when your prospective client is shopping around for solutions to their problems. I just celebrated my first mother's day! I secretly thought my husband would forget. Boy, was I wrong.

Since Skyla was born, we haven't had a whole lot of "romantic" time. I feel great, but frankly, I haven't felt very sexy in the past 3 months... partly because I'm so sick of my clothes!

Well...

Sunday night Gregory surprises me with a living room candlelit "picnic" and a beautifully wrapped gift. Inside is the most adorable flirtatious, sexy dress. I was floored. He's not the most stylish guy... how did he pick out the perfect dress? (Shhhh... don't tell him I said that. It's really not his fault, his mother dressed him funny as a kid.)

(b) how much money and time have you invested into your business training?

(training = learning from an expert who has already been tremendously successful in their area of training)

The answer will be reflected in your bank account. (Yes, this is a tough love email.)

I've given up trying to figure it all out on my own. Instead, I make a point of learning what I don't know from those who are a proven success.

What skills do you need to grow your business NOW?

Who would you like to learn from this year?
Write his or her name down. Call in your teacher.

If you feel like you can't afford it, but you KNOW it's the right program, FIND A WAY. Remember, if it's going to get you more clients and make you more money, then it's an investment, not a cost.

A Critical Mistakes Coaches Make... And What To Do Instead

Hi!

Mistake #1: Not Naming Your Techniques.

As an expert in your field, you are going to be giving people methods, techniques, and systems to get the results they want.

You might be giving them exercise routines for increasing energy and losing weight.

That's okay, but you sound like everyone else! Plus, techniques are everywhere on Google for free. The VALUE is not in the technique.

So, how do we convey value and compel people to pay us?

Let's say you have a combination of proprietary techniques that you've developed. And let's say that you've combined them into a very specific sequence and recipe that gets 3 better and faster results.

And then let's say that you spend an extra few minutes to NAME YOUR TECHNIQUE...with a title that implies MASSIVE VALUE!

The Technique:Eat 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fat if you want to lose weight and increase your energy and focus.

Valuable Title: "The Zone Diet"

Book #2: Skinny Bitch (written by ex-models)

What can we learn from this?

Naming your techniques, methods and concepts increases their perceived value of a factor of 10-100 times MORE!

Add OOMPH to your elevator chat

"What do you do?"

"Ugggghh...why is this question so hard to answer? I swear I know what I do, I just don't know how to say it."

Answering this question effectively matters! I guarantee you will be asked this question over and over again and every time you stumble on your words you are potentially losing clients, losing money and losing referral. So let's work on how to answer that question with confidence.

One of the biggest mistakes I made early in my career as a wellness professionals was replying, "I'm a health coach."

SO BORING!

Don't worry, there is nothing wrong with you if you have found yourself blurting out similar words... it's not a bad response, it's just that there is a MUCH better one! You may have noticed people glazing over, conversation halts and later you wonder why no one asked you for a consultation.

Words matter.
The language you use matters.

There's just no getting around it; certain words are more effective than others. The elevator chat functions to use very few (yet slam-dunk meaningful) words to communicate what you do so the other person responds, "how do you do that?"

It's all about WHAT you say and HOW you say it.

The words you use must always:

be consistent with your story

be appropriate for the "mental movie" you want to reel in your prospect's mind

be chosen for their ability to affect the person to whom you are speaking

consist of words and terms commonly used by your ideal client

resonate with your target market and make them feel, "This is for me."

So, if someone were to ask you right now, "What do you do?" --

What would you say?
Do you have an elevator you use?
Is it effective?
Does it engage your ideal clients?
