Faulty balance is at the root of many of the pains that people come to see me for, as an Alexander Technique instructor.  People tend to stand and walk with a disproportionate amount of weight on their heels. This has the effect of constricting all the muscles at the back of the body, from the ankles to where the head attaches at the top of the spine. You can get an idea of the muscular effects of leaning back by leaning back even further than you are used to and see if you notice an increased tightness in you back and legs. During Alexander Technique instruction, the teacher helps you find optimal balance, which, in itself reduces tension, pain, and fatique.  Learn more, click here
