What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda, or as it is called in the West, “the Knowledge or Science of Life”, is a complete system of medicinal sciences. It has been passed on to humanity through divine realization to propagate growth, understanding, and transformation in all aspect of life.
Since man or humanity is a microcosmic representation of the universe; i.e. (Loka-Purusha Samya = macrocosm-microcosm continuum), then imbalances of the external environment are reflected in our individualistic microcosmic states.
It encompasses both the preventive and curative aspects of health, dealing with the physical body, mental and spiritual well-being, social and environmental concerns as well as lifestyle and dietary habits in accordance to nature and its elemental changes.
Not only is Ayurveda a science, but one that is deeply rooted in philosophy and spirituality that embraces and teaches an innate respect for humanity and nature, with a deep and infinite appreciation for life and its principle.
As we can see throughout the world, there are nations with excesses and this is a reflection of the excesses of their culture. In the same way, those areas lacking or deficient in us are also reflected in our bodies and minds.
Ayurveda’s main purpose, same as in Chinese and Unani Medicine, is to achieve balance in all levels of our existence.
