Monthly Inspirational Movie Night

Our dream of having a monthly inspirational movie night for the community is now even closer to becoming a reality. We have the projector, the screen, and a few amazingly generous venue offers that we're thrilled about, but we still need to hear from you! We're still looking for ...

* Poll Responses: What day of the week and what time of the day would best suit your schedule for a monthly movie night?

* Movie Suggestions: Movies like "What the Bleep Do We Know?" "The Peaceful Warrior," and "The Secret."

* One back-up volunteer for equipment set-up once a month.

* Business or individual sponsors. (As always!)

Please, shoot us an email. We want to hear from you!

NEW: Online Member's Forum

We've added another great (and free) feature to our whyimeditate.com website. The Meditation Community of Central PA's "Member's Forum" is a great place to:

* Announce any free community events of interest.

* Connect with other like-hearted people in the community. Go ahead - connect!

* Inspire others by sharing your own writings, poetry, or life experiences from your journey of self-discovery and growth. Don't be afraid to shine!

* Share your favorite quotes, poems, songs, movies, books, and authors. If you found it inspirational and transformative we want to know about it!

* Ask a question about meditation in general or about your own personal practice. You can even post anonymously.

* Offer your suggestions. Is there a particular topic you'd like us to discuss at our weekly mindfulness meditation meetings? Would you like us to host a particular guest speaker/teacher or would you like to offer a presentation yourself? Let us know! We'd love to hear from you!

The forum is brand new and it's still looking a little thin, so click over and post something to help us warm it up a bit. :)

Mindful Parenting Discussion

Our loving thoughts and prayers are with Edyta Hutchman and her family as she goes in for emergency surgery this Friday and spends time recovering over the next few weeks.

Edyta was to present the topic "Mindful Parenting" this Saturday at the Open House Event for Om Baby Pregnancy and Parenting Center in Lemoyne. With her blessing, and armed with only a few hours worth of preparation, I'll be facilitating the discussion in her stead. She's an insightful and inspiring human being, and we hope she returns in good health soon to speak from her passion for Mindful Parenting.

When:
This Saturday, December 5th, 2009
2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Where:
Om Baby Pregnancy & Parenting Center
834 Rear Market St.
Lemoyne, PA 17043
(717) 761-4975

Based on the book, "Everyday Blessings: The Inner Work of Mindful Parenting" by Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn

Warm Greetings,

We have a couple of great announcements to make and a few requests!

First, our free online community through Meetup.com passed 100 members this week! Don't forget, you're always invited to offer any suggestions you might have. Is there a particular topic you'd like us to discuss at our weekly mindfulness meditation meetings? Would you like us to promote a book that you've found inspiring and transformative? Would you like to offer a presentation yourself? Let us know! We'd love to hear from you!

Next, our dream of having a monthly inspirational movie night for the community is now one step closer to becoming a reality as one of our members has generously donated a new digital projector and screen! Here's where you come in. We're still looking for ...
  • Poll Responses: What day of the week and what time of the day would best suit your schedule for a monthly movie night?
  • Venue Suggestions: Preferably free. A public library perhaps?
  • Movie Suggestions: Movies like "What the Bleep Do We Know?" "The Peaceful Warrior," and "The Secret."
  • One back-up volunteer for equipment set-up once a month.
  • Business or individual sponsors.
Shoot us an email. We want to hear from you!

Gobble-Gobble,
Joshua

Greetings!

And brrr...

As the bustling energy of Summer fades, and the hours of daylight retreat, I hope your heart and mind are brightened by the spirit and cheer of the holiday season.

While your thoughts may turn more towards loved ones and the giving of gifts, may you not forget to give to yourself. As the Buddha once said, "You yourself, as much as anyone in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection."

Yours,
Joshua

Mindful Reflection of the Week: Inclining the Mind
Just by recognizing what is present in our minds, it is already transformed. By accepting what is present, the transformation becomes a helpful change.

Sometimes, it can happen, that even though we recognize that our clinging, our attachment, is hurting us, we are unable to let go. Unable to accept what is present. We may feel stuck.

At times like this, it can be helpful to think of "inclining" the mind towards letting go, towards acceptance. There is no need to force it. It's enough to incline in that direction. We are planting the seed. A flower opens its petals in its own time, it can't be rushed.

Yours,
Joshua

As we continue to grow (90+ members strong!) and offer more services and events, we want to make sure we're doing so in a way that best meets your needs. Towards that end, we invite you to offer any suggestions you might have. Is there a particular topic you'd like us to discuss at our weekly mindfulness meditation meetings? Would you like us to promote a book that you've found inspiring and transformative? Would you like to offer a presentation yourself? Let us know! We'd love to hear from you!

This week's meeting topic is "Every Moment is Sacred - Mindfulness Meditation and Spirituality." Our weekly topics tend to be relatively pragmatic, and we typically avoid spiritual and esoteric subjects in order to remain as inclusive as possible for our ecclectic group of attendees. Statistically speaking, however, 98% of us believe in some form of a "Higher Power," so it may be helpful to address the connection between mindfulness meditation and spirituality, and how we can experience the sacredness of each and every moment regardless of our particular spiritual background.

We hope you can join us, and look forward to seeing you! More information and RSVP link below.

Yours,
Joshua
