When we speak of minerals we are referring to certain chemical elements, many of which are actually metals. Each of these substances has specific properties and will react in a particular way with other elements. Nature has chosen to use various minerals for different purposes within our bodies, as each carries out one or more functions. All metabolic activity depends upon key minerals that must be present for any living process to occur. To produce our energy and build our bodies certain amounts of essential minerals are necessary. Because they are so vital in every way we could look at them as the foundation upon which we are built. Ideally, our tissues should contain a certain amount of each mineral and expend a certain quantity at a given rate. Hair, being a tissue, accumulates minerals as it grows. These, being reflective of the metabolic processes taking place in the body over a period of time, are excellent indicators of how well our metabolism is functioning. Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a test that determines exactly what your mineral status is. This can not only reveal what future disease trends might be present, but can explain current distressing and perplexing symptoms.
