It is well known Aloe Vera is great for soothing sunburned skin and it's easy to find lots of skin care products that contain Aloe Vera for healing dry skin. But, along with caring for our skin Aloe Vera has a wide variety of valuable uses from treating acne and PMS to treating stomachaches and ulcerations. Aloe Vera is one of the most famous and widely used herbs of all herbal remedies. It is also one of the oldest known herbs. It is even mentioned in the Bible: “As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river' side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters” Numbers 24:6 (KJV).  In John 19:39 (KJV) the Bible tells of Nicodemus bringing Jesus a gift of myrrh and aloes.

Methods of Administration and Dose

Aloe Vera juice is extremely soothing to irritated skin and mucous membranes. To relieve heartburn and inflammation of the esophagus take one tablespoonful in a glass of water or juice and sip slowly. Aloe Vera gel may be applied topically to skin irritations and burns. Apply liberally and keep the skin moist for best results. Whole leaf Aloe Vera juice helps strengthen and build the body's immune system and is used to fight degenerative diseases such as cancer and AIDS.   Aloe Vera can also be diluted to one half or one third strength as nose drops to relieve nasal and sinus congestion.

Contraindications

It is suggested children, the elderly and pregnant women should not drink Aloe Vera juice. However, this may apply only to the green leaf portion (which is a strong laxative) or to Aloe Vera concentrates. The green part of the leaf is filtered out in the juice and the gel leaving a mild, harmless remedy.

Many companies manufacture Aloe Vera, but most products on the market have lost much of the plant’s original benefits due to over-processing. Beware of Aloe Vera juice that claims to have no disagreeable taste. Removing this taste can leave you with a product that is only 10–15 percent Aloe Vera, at best.
